Do you have hobbies other than guitars, gear, or music.

Hmmm...

I went through a really crazy classic car/hot rod/exotic car period, starting as a very young man, but I just kinda stopped one day in 2010. It just became such a money pit that it wasn't fun anymore.

Between 2017 and 2018, I did try my hand at some guitar building, but that was largely to improve my own skill level.

Now, I enjoy watching birds at my feeder, riding my old 1983 Honda XR500R and metal detecting out in the very nearby Mojave Desert...but my biggest hobby is still music.

If I'm not playing for hire, I'm learning a new riff or song. I'll sit in the mornings quietly and play unplugged. Yesterday, for fun, I started learning the Super Mario theme.

I cannot remember a day that I have not had a guitar in my hands since I re-entered the music scene on March 12, 2011.

I love the motorbike!!!

You have a lot of cool poop, bro!

My other hobby is writing. Used to be my profession, but now there's so little money in it I just do occasional gigs for friends and or projects that get me excited. I've written a ton of comic books, graphic novels, sports articles and pulp fiction (the medium, not the Tarantino movie). Been just about a year since my first full length sword & sorcery novel came out. Probably should get on writing another one...

Does eating, drinking, and fornicating count?
If so, I'm in.
Though these days I do too much of some and not enough of others.

Seasonal gardening, home landscape. We grow some tomatoes, peppers, basil, etc. each year, along with annuals.
Basic astronomy, stargazing, moon phases, eclipses, visible planets, seasonal meteor showers, etc.
History. I watch a lot of ancient history and WW programs.

We were going to concerts somewhat regularly since 2014, but then that shall not be named happened....

I have some other interests that I still have but am not really active in.
In descending order of last periods of much activity: ocean / bay small boat fishing, welding, golf, shooting sports / hunting both gun and bow, too much partying, dirt bikes.

Other interests by necessity include DIY home repair / improvement guy, computer / IT guy, automotive and appliance repair tech, etc.

im into shooting.
most of the time im limited to around 200 yards but a few weeks ago i got to take a few ar15s to an 850 yard range.
with m193 55 grn i was able to nail the 500 yard target every time.
need a heavier bullet to go beyond that.

I’ve been working on cars and old Chevies since I was 16. Getting too old for twisting wrenches anymore, sold the 70 El Camino and 69 tripower Corvette in 2019 and sold the house with the lift in 2020. It was an enjoyable hobby, turning gas into noise.

Oh, and I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane once !

My wife and I met drag racing F-Bodies. We were into restoring/modding them til we started realizing how much money we were dumping into it. When it started costing $10k just to gain 1/10th in the quarter mile time slips, we packed it in. Now, my beautiful bride doesn't bat an eye when I want to drop $500 on music gear. :ROFLMAO:

We have been discussing getting an old Trans Am to fix up and weekend drive, but so far it's just talk...

I did the 'F' Body thing...

Google "1975 Firebird 30 Day Blitzkrieg" and "1975 Firebird Route 66 Road Test" and watch the videos....

Cool I love astronomy too. Need to get the big scope out when it isn't so.. um.. atrociously cold. We watch lots of telly too. A perk of being retired.

Man, I know it's different when one does it for a living but boy I am a slacker big time. We used to rehearse more and that was enough for me, now, I rarely pick up a guitar at home. :hide:
Not gonna improve at that rate.
I need to start up again more at home.

I just cannot seem to get by without the desire to be playing. For me, I have to force myself to make time for other things.

Gawd, after reading this thread I feel more boring than a box of rocks. Eon's ago I was into flight simulators and astronomy. Life interfered and had to give both of them up. In 2016 I got the bug to learn how to build tube amps. Still no cure for that. Got a HiWatt DR504 clone in progress. And I guess you could say this place is a hobby. Lots of interesting and good people here. Rare for online forums.

I hear ya. I bought the 2010 Camaro in October of 2009. The local drag strip, Fontana’s AutoClub, had street legal drag days once a month. Bone stock, with the paper tags still on it I did a 13.3. Then I did the mods below over time and either drag raced it or Dino-Ed it after each mod. Then the drag strip, closed down for street legal drags

Cold air intake
Kooks long tube headers
Kooks hi flow cats
3” inch aluminum exhaust pipes (IIRC)
Magnaflow hi flow mufflers
changed rear gears from 3.27 to 3.70
Eibach springs and bars, lowered the car about an inch
numerous tunes (and auto trans tune)
drag radials
ported throttle body
engine bling (OK, didn’t help on drag times but sure is pretty)

Best 1/4 mile time was 12.75 after all this.

And this was my DD for 8 years.

Oh, in going through pics I forgot about this mod. Back in 2008/2009 GM was going through bankruptcy and a lot of things got left on the cutting room floor. The 2010 Camaro was supposed to have a HUD, but it didn’t make the cut. The HUD made it into the 2011 Camaro. But a few guys figured out the 2010 could be retrofitted with one. The dash top had the spot to cutout and the dash had a blank space for the switch. So I took the plunge and spent 2 days installing one with 2011 parts. I had never taken an air bag off before and treated it like I was a bomb squad tech.

I used to be into motorcycles in my younger years. The Shop where I bought 2 new Hondas from , we became good friends, they used to race mudruns, so Friday evenings we would work on the bikes to have them ready. I can tell you mud gets in everywhere, there was lots of work to do on them, to get them in shape for the races.
