Anyone use Flat Wound Strings?
I tried them once. I think they are good for certain styles. If you're a strummer or play in a softer approach, they seem fine. For heavier handed or faster stuff, they tend to not ring out as much and have a lil more muted sound. That's not a bad thing really i dont guess.

One thing, is you can easy over slide frets when using them, where they are flatter and kinda softer feeling, its easy to slip into the wrong fret. In a way, that seems idea for faster playing definitely but the muting it naturally has, kinda cancels out that positive.

Again, fine strings pending on style

Yeah, I switched over (or back, actually) to GHS. Except, I use a DYXL set because those sets have a wound third string. For my SG, though, I use Thomastik-Infeld Blues Sliders.

I do prefer the GHS over the D’Addario that I was using.

Update:

I just strung up my 2014 SG with the 10-46 GHS DYXL strings (with wound third). I really like the wound third on that guitar, too.

So, I guess that is now my string of choice for all my electrics.

I'm guessing you are playing mostly chords???

1-1/2 to 2 step bends will usually kill a .017" or .018" wound 'G'...

Nope, not just, or even mostly chords. I do chords, melodies, leads, arpeggios…all of it.

I do plenty of bending, but I have little need to do 2 step bends. If I did, I may have to have a different approach. I understand that.

I prefer the string-to-string balance with a wound third, especially with a Strat. I also prefer the feel. Aside from the wound third, I also prefer the general feel of 10s to 9s.

This is personal preference.
