Demon unleashed

Now adays I also like for my car to handle well. Looks like the demon is a one trick pony with the suspension set for drag racing.

Not quite... The Demon uses Bilstein Adaptive Damping shocks. When in "drag mode" the front shocks are set for firm compression & soft rebound, like a 90/10 drag shock. That configuration remains as long as the car is at wide open throttle. As soon as the throttle is backed off the front shocks switch back to firm rebound.
Plus a few other nifty stock go fast goodies like internal trans brake, launch assist that senses wheel hop in milliseconds & corrects for it, yet can tell between a burnout & tire slip.

It's also the first & only stock car to pull the front wheels off the ground running factory installed "drag radial" rear tires.

Dodge invited the Guinness Book of world records to document this nifty trick. They recorded a 2.92 ft. wheelie.
Not bad for showroom fresh.

No it may not be a canyon carver, but it sure sounds like a ton of fun in school zones.

My issue of Hot Rod magazine just arrived yesterday with the new 2018 Dodge Demon on the cover!!!

My stick shift immediately popped a gear!

840 HP pushing a bone stock SuperCharged Hemi across the 1/4 mile at 140 miles per hour is simply mind blowing virgin stock dealer roadworthy vehicle territory & fvk yeah I want one! What red blooded American boy wouldn't!?

Me & the Mrs had already decided our next car was going to be an SRT (392 motor based) Challenger and that the Hellcats were just too over priced (even used) for that extra HP. Plus that the naturally aspirated larger Hemi (there is also a 6.1L Hemi) with its 485 HP 6.4L would be enough to make us happy while passing multiple cars at time on our occasional right foot flooring stomp & ride into Kingston for groceries or Dr appts er whatev.

But this Demon! It has me sayin, 'now hold on a second, how much is that gonna cost??' LOL
If Dodge can offer me this rocket near a Hellcats price tag, I will be rethinking our options just as soon as a current car payment gets finished! There is no trading in my much beloved 2013 SS Camaro though, she is my sexy white bitch & I'm keep'n her till death! LOL Hey, I just LOVE that car what can I say.

Check out the sidewall flex & grab on those radial drag tires that come stock with the Demon!

Let today's technology be your new best friend! Check out the access to electronic adjustments, stats etc..

Now adays I also like for my car to handle well. Looks like the demon is a one trick pony with the suspension set for drag racing.

Here is a quote from the on-line Hot Rod article that speaks to this issue.

"... as extreme as the Challenger SRT Hellcat is, it was always intended to strike that perfect balance between drag strip brute force, road course competence, and street car civility. Anyone who has driven a Hellcat will attest that it has an incredible “personality bandwidth,” depending on how a driver configures the power level, suspension, transmission, traction, and stability controls. It truly is the ultimate “do everything” muscle car....

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, however, has a different mission. Designed to be highly competent in all drive modes and configurations, the SRT Demon is made to absolutely dominate in Drag Mode. In the coming weeks, Dodge will share more of the Drag Mode attributes. But this week, the focus is on how Drag Mode, in combination with the SRT Demon’s all-new suspension, maximizes weight transfer, traction, and control … because burnouts are fun, but they don’t win races."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have to tip my hat
to American performance car designers at GM,Ford & Dodge lately as they have embraced electronic technology to adjust performance parameters on the fly to control everything from suspension & handling, power delivery, exhaust note / performance to launch assist & wheel speed sensors knowing the difference between wheel spin from a burn out & more dangerous wheel slippage that gets electronically corrected. This applied tech is making leaps & bounds every year & is the one thing I wish I had more of on my 2013 SS which was the first year for the touch sensitive 8 inch in dash screen that had the ability to adjust & control anything. 5 years later these screens are able to control so much more it boggles the mind & makes the thought of life without this tech feel like going backwards & just really undesirable to gadget tinkering nerds like me that like to mess around with such things.

I will take this opportunity to say that if the new 6th generation Camaro still looked more like a Camaro & less like a Corvette spin-off that I would be probably be going back for another updated version of one because Chevy has made a truly awesome performing & handling high tech vehicle that is a real joy to ride with the 6th gen Camaro.

Dodge has managed to maintain giving it's nod to the vintage muscle car looks of the early 70 era vehicles, unlike the new Chevy Camaro! you GM bastards you.

Newest version Camaro below....

Thats quite a difference from the clean & classic looks of my 5th gen 2013...

But Dodge is still nailing the look going on 10 years now and this SRT Challenger T/A below just does it for me.

Does that inspire any old memories for ya Grant?

How about this one below??

What a beautiful car man. Just Gorgeous!

What a great nod Dodge still gives today to the look that got you there!

upload_2017-6-1_6-5-18.jpeg

Just as beautiful looking as the original. New, similar yet different but still,.. just beautiful!

And as for the new 2018 Demon looking anything like the original Dodge Demon....

upload_2017-6-1_6-14-49.jpeg

Well maybe the vintage Dodge Demon / Dart, Plymouth Duster look isn't as desirable or worthy of tribute & updating as the Challenger look was after all.

Go Mopar!

I miss the old Pontiac Trans Am with the big bird on the hood.

Back in the day I enjoyed two different Trans Am's, an '86 & '87, which would have been the 3rd generation style & not so much the Smokey & the Bandit iconic look we mostly think of today. Compared to the 1st gen T/A that appeared in 1969 the 3rd gen just didn't put up the raw horsepower numbers but they handled really exceptionally well, they were laid out nice on the inside & those big T Tops were even more preferable to me than a convertible.

Most Tran Ams of this 3rd gen ran 305 CI motors with Tuned Port Injection starting in '85 only producing 210 HP but the '85 T/A's design also had the notoriety of becoming GM's most aerodynamic car ever produced at that time!

Yah yah yah, I know. Who cares right.?. LOL

Here's your FireBird V_1.

upload_2017-6-2_6-25-46.jpeg

Despite lower compression motors & lower HP rating these '76 455 HO Pontiac motors still put out the torque yet they were well built & responded dramatically to aftermarket improvements that could easily bring HP ratings into the 500+ range!
After '78/'79 even the 400 motor was gone from the Trans Am. pppppt! Government interference at it worst man!

All I got to say is that God American Horsepower came back to our cars & we once again have some awesome performance based cars to enjoy!

Where is all the American car performance love??

Come on peeps! Put yer foot in it & feel the luv!

LOVING baby MC LOVING

I had a big ol 454 in my Monte Carlo......man I miss that feeling (I dont miss 8-10mpg) ----but thems was different times.

IF I was in the market for a US Muscle car now--- I think I would head to the Camaro Dealer and get one......I LOVE the the look of the DOdge.......so OLD School
But the handeling, braking and overall performance on the Cameros just seems top of the heap these days.

Oh...I gots lotsa love for American muscle cars.

The closest I ever came to actually having one, however, was my old '71 Cutlass that I converted to dual exhaust and four-barrel carb.

To be honest, I've never even sat in one of the newer versions...well...I guess I did last year. I sat in a new Camaro at the Chevy dealership. But, that's it.

I do like a lot of the newer versions. You're right. Chrysler is really nailing it with the designs. Even so, I still turn my head more when I see the old ones.

I was trying to figure out why I still have a preference for the older models, even though the new ones still look stunning.

Then it hit me....

Chrome.

The old ones had lots of chrome...chrome trim, chrome bumpers, chrome accents... The newer models lack the chrome bling. They are killer designs and look very sharp, but I miss the chrome.

Is that so bad?

I like the retro look of the new challengers. I'm not very impressed with the quality of my wife's pt cruiser.

No doubt Chrysler could have put some performance into the PT & really made it a great car. I always felt they let the design down in this regard. It deserved better! There have been lots of cars like this and Pontiac's Fiero always comes to mind. Great idea but it NEVER got the factory performance motor it was meant to handle & what we got instead was an under-powered stylish looking let down. (trombone slide) ... Waah waah waah waaaaaah.....

Remember the good old days when you could pick your motor & Horse Power rating for your new car??:flame:

That 454 was one BadA$$ motor, especially in the 70-71 SS models after which the HP dropped from around 390 (with low compression & hot Corvette cam in 1971) to around 285HP in 72!
The 'Heavy Chevy 454 Chevelle was another killer. Plus, Chevelle models offered an addition cowl induction upgrade option with a different version 454 (LS6) that was rated at a whopping 450 HP (some say 500+ in stock form with a knowledged tune-up) in 1970. The '70 was doing 13.7 seconds in the 1/4 mile!!! (the base model 454 was rated at 360HP just like the 1970 Monte 454).

Oh...I gots lotsa love for American muscle cars.

Is that so bad?

I often see 'non 442' Cutlass models from this era being some the last remaining real deal GM A body cars left at bargain prices. The nice thing about Oldsmobiles is they seldom made a bumass cheapo version back then & all their cars felt classy, but that said, I know Olds had their cheaper versions too, they just always seem better equipped with more amenities than what the 'poor mans' Chevrolet versions amounted to. (No radio & shoe string running across the inside of the cat & tied from whipper to whipper for manual hand operation. No wait, that was my 72 Chevelle 4 door after the wiper motor went. Never mind)

Now the whole chrome deal was a steady progression of safety demands, cost & weight savings all coming into play against there being chrome or even real metal bumpers anymore. Even the brite work we do see on various automobiles is various forms of coated plastic! The chrome bumper is history!

I will take this opportunity to unashamedly post another picture of my 69 Pontiac 400 & all its many chromed parts glory!

000_0203 (390x292).jpg

Even in 69 we can see a little less front chrome bumper as the light enclosures get the color matching endura treatment. Interestingly enough, it was the Last Year for a Firebird having a metal front bumper!!!

But lets look at the chrome brite work available on this '69 starting with that front beak of a bumper!. In front, there is also chrome on the front body lights & headlight surrounds.

Zooming in better shows the chrome wheel well trim, splash guards, faux wheel vent, Firebird & 400 emblems etc, mirrors, front windsheild frame, door handle, rocker panel trim & even the windshield wipers! Beyond that, the exterior also has a chrome rear bumper, antennae, side window seal, & obligatory for the period chrome wheels & exhaust tips!

FYI. I just had the millionaire guy down the road tell me to name my price for the car because his spoiled daughters birthday is coming up & she really wants the car! WTH?? Gotta tell ya though, I love saying "NO you can't have" to the rich guy & pampered princess more than I would like to double my investment by naming my price. Ha Ha Ha! Suck on that rich millionaire guy Ha Ha!

PS. Schmitty, there is actually aftermarket chrome kits for the 5th gen Camaro complete with chrome on plastic front & rear bumper that gives a big nod to the 69 Camaro look!

Front Bumper & Hood ornament below.

There is also the retro wheel well trim & wide rocker panel chrome trim too!

I thought about going this route for a minute but the cost for plastic chromed material seemed rather frivolous. Besides that, I am enjoying the current all white look with no stripes & cowl hood too much at this time to try the pricey experiment.
