Attention Vette Lovers

Corvette announced its recent C8 Nurburgring time...a full second slower than a production BMW M4

You may recall how i expressed concerns over the C8's poorly copied Italian mid engine layout and suspected bad handling anomalies and liky will cull out many unskilled drivers. Of course, the Corvette Faithful follow GM with total abandon.

Now, recently retired Corvette engineer Jim Mero pointed out in an interview that he has concerns about C8 handling because even though Corvette essentially copied the R8 and 458, they didn't get it right.

The new C8 has the same weight distribution (35/65) as the new rear engine 911 which is 39/61.

Interestingly, BMW's M4 has a 49.6/50.4 distribution from its front engine/rear drive chassis

We know now (Mero) that GM had both the R8 and the 458 available in the lab to copy from...and yet, they ended up off the mark by miles.

Anyone who has pushed a 911 around Laguna Seca - as i have done - will tell you they are not a forgiving car.

So, for me, its a lack of attentiom to important details that alerts me to a general B.S/propaganda campaign, which Corvette has been famous for.

Don't believe everything GM is telling you anymore than the girl who claims dhe's only kissed - both are on the same level of truthfullness.

I can only hope that the new C8 drivers, who skid off Angeles Crest Highway, don't take anybody else with them...

Now that a very limited number of the 2020 C8 Corvettes have been delivered, people are putting up videos about their new acquisitions. At the risk of Robert saying "I told you so", I was watching a video of the new stingray on the track at Willow Springs. The first video below is the Vette, the second video is me driving my car on the same track. Please note how he interacts with the steering wheel. It appears to me as though he is making some very hard sharp twists of the steering wheel and not much is happening to change the car's direction. Notice my video and turning in my car is a smooth graceful action. If I were to jerk my wheel around like the Vette video, my car would be all over the track. I just don't understand how the same would not happen in the Vette.



BTW, you can't read my speed, but my ride was pretty much the same speeds as the Vette video. 140 MPH on the front straight 1/2 mile straight with a large swooping 180 degree turn feeding into it at 90 MPH
 
Man that's a lot of play in that steering wheel. What's up with that? That's very sloppy steering, something doesn't seem right to me. There must be some settings for track use.
 
In 2019 many people were looking forward to the new mid engine Corvette C8. So the pandemic came, car production stopped, production started, then stopped. Production started up again and the C8 Corvettes hit the street. Many Vette lovers are looking forward to the Z06 which has a DOHC flat plane crank naturally aspirated dry sump engine producing 670 HP. The most powerful naturally aspirated engine made for a car.





Listen to the mechanical music this engine makes. Gotta love that throttle response!





Chevrolet is taking it one step farther to where anyone with the cash can buy the same C8 that the race teams drives. Corvette Z06 GT3.R
