Attention Vette Lovers

Man...this post got me actually looking - serously - at brand new Mustangs.

I then noticed how hard Ford hits you with the high-cost option packages. Im a traditional minimalist, so i priced out a GT with spoiler/stripe delete and zero extra cost options - except the sport tone, programmable exhaust, and the numbers rolled up to $36,000USD.

That's not a bad price really for the 435 horsepower base model with 3.55 posi and 6 speed manual.

Cool colors, like Ruby Red and Orange Blaze are +$475.00 options. The car comes with a 6 speaker stereo, bit there's a sound system upgrade for $1,000.00. You can get 3.73 gears for $575.00 and a set of Shelby style wheels for $750.00...but those things just seem so unnecessary to me.

If it came right down to it, i could buy a set of 4.10:1 gears for under $200.00 and better looking wheels than the Shelby's for way under $750.00....at least that's how my mind works anyways... :-)

If I was going to spend $70,000 on a car, it wouldn't be the Corvette. It would likely be the 2.9 Twin Turbo Alfa Romeo Gulia AWD with 505 horsepower and 443 lbs/ft of torque. Laid down a 7 minute 32 second Nurburgring lap....Nice little car, but the lack of a true manual gearbox would keep me out of it....

I mean, since you used the Obama metaphor, what's more impressive to you??? A 2.9 litre making 505/443 or a 6.2 litre V8 making 495/470??? Almost dead-equal lap times....

Just checked out the new consumers report magazine on this model, listed ( Much Worse Than Average ) Reliability Rating. Not Good!

Power Equipment
In-Car Electronics

I wonder where they are getting their data??? Everyone I know has a Gulia it would see and they are causing no problems...

Robert they get information from owners of those vehicles. they conduct annual reliability surveys from members to find out which vehicles cost their owners time and money, and which ones are trouble free. They also ask owners if they are satisfied with their vehicles. Consumer reports has detailed data nobody else has. The only thing better than a reliable car, is a reliable car that owners love too. This year alone Consumers Reports gathered data on about a half a million cars, trucks, minivans, wagons and Suvs. But that's not all. Only CR buys its own vehicles, so we conduct more than 50 detailed evaluations on a car, we're testing the same one you plan to buy- not a souped up version that an automaker loaned us so they'd get a good review. CR is non profit organization so we don't answer to automakers or dealers. Its why you don't see any ads from automakers in this magazine, but you will see excusive test data that you can't get anywhere else. This is how I get my information on any vehicle I buy, also they have magazines on electronic equipment and appliances.

I've been doing some research on the Alfa and indeed it does get respect for being a nice car in several areas except for 1 main thing... Reliability. Seems as though the owners have complaints about reliability. Being an Italian car once part of the Fiat family it seems as though the Fiat matto Fix It Again Tony has carried over to the Alfa Romeo family, which indeed has also carried over with Chrysler as well.

EDIT* I see that there have been other posts above this one regarding this topic of reliability. I'm on the late show here again...

Go figure..I know 5 Gulia owners - of course that's a small segment - but they are very happy and have no issues...I would consider one if it was available as a manual.

Notice in the picture for the Alpha there is no check mark in the picture, if it doesn't, then it doesn't pass the approval of Consumer reports standards for reliability.

When I was in Machinist school full time 7AM to 3PM I worked part time at a Alpha Romeo shop Ralli Round in Seattle from 1980-1982 3:30PM to 6:30PM Monday through Friday Keith Magnuson owner had me building all the engines in the clean room and his racing motors
the cool thing about Alpha's is you can change out the cylinder sleeves and pistons Keith had a 1929 Alpha motor overhead cams
supercharged magneto ignition hemi head Weber side draft carbs nothing new under the sun.
Keith's GTV was the first turbo Alpha and NOS he won every race. I guess Robert caused a flash back on the video posted.
