The thing you cant do without.

Gibsons are finished in nitro. But these original Silverbursts yellow much more than other colors for some reason. I've seen theories, mostly that its the paint they used, which apparently was some type of automotive finish, offgassing something under the clear nitro that is reacting with the finish in a different way. Always have wondered what the real skinny is though.
I can’t speak to automotive finishes. Though from what I know. Those finishes are usually baked at high temperatures to cure the finish. Maybe the paint wasn’t cured all the way and the solvents were still flashing off when it was coated. Then those VOCs would be trapped between the finish and the coating. That would cause an adverse reaction.

tomorrow there will be a chemistry quiz.

What is your favorite instrument of sonic destruction and why? (Don't wimp out, gives us pics and really why you love it)

This is gonna be a buzzkill, but I try to eliminate the idea of “favorites” from my life. I have no favorite guitar. I do tend to gravitate toward one or the other of my guitars for awhile, but I don’t actually have a favorite.

Of the guitars that I own, I don't want to part with any, but the one I most couldn't part with is my ('81) Heritage 80 Standard Les PaulWP_20180720_004_103127.jpg
Sorry I don't have a full length pic on my phone.
Then of course, there's this part of the equation.16111859701404709200760034480149.jpg
This lester, into the plexi through 4x12 greenbacks, equals my sonic nirvana. Cheers

Gotta be my Goya GS40 L6-S copy mainly because it is my first guitar so I have the most years bonding with it.
Lightweight, fast, thin 24 fret neck, hot pickups. A shredder with no pointy bits! All maple. Bright and cutting. Beauty. Got him in 1978 brand new.

Despite owning my own personal grail ('79 Les Paul Custom Silverburst), it's actually got to be this one. It's a 2016 non weight-relieved plaintop Traditional. It recently had the wiring updated to a Gunstreet harness and a set of orignal late '70s T-tops, and it is simply the best playing, best sounding, best feeling guitar I have ever had my hands on.

Even though I have an assortment of guitars, this is an easy one: My trusty Washburn D-20 S/N dreadnought acoustic... First guitar I got when I moved to Canada more than twenty years ago. Bought it third hand used...

Keep it by my side, play it any time of day or night without disturbing anyone, practice all my songs, thicker strings give my fingers a good workout (e.g: bends), polishes my skills (pinch harmonics, tapping, palm mutes, etc...).

I love it with all its blemishes, nicks, scars and scratches and in spite of it having divots the size of the grand canyon on the first few frets (which throw my tuning to :poo: when I press too hard on them). It still gives out a warm tone that I haven't found on any other.
