TVvoodoo's Straplab

This morning boxing up one of my Dragon Sum Yung Guy straps for Gregor in Arkansas... while chatting, found out he was another repeat customer... he sent in the kind of photo I know TTR gear hoes will appreciate...

Black Rose, on a Trussart Thinline

trussart greg arkansas.jpg

Can't wait to see what he pairs the incoming the dragon strap with!

This one for an art appreciatin' TTR member, who's good taste in the finer things is only exceeded by his uncanny abilities to make the ladies swoon
It was @Don who saw the last one, and tole me to "Gogh, Bradley Gogh-Gogh-Gogh!" in crafting one for hisself.

While the first one seemed to be a massive undertaking, the second one was a a fair bit easier mostly because the path had been traveled once before, and recently so.

Starry Night 2.0 is nearly done, all that remains is to neatsfoot oil it from the underside, pad 'er out, line it, sew it and punch some holes.
Heavy 9/10 oz. Veg-tan leather that isn't as stiff as you might think, fixed length at 54" long, These are shade pics, the colours are a bit softer than in real life
But I did achieve the goal of an overall slightly more "bluey" tone, than on the last one

The first one has already arrived in Florida to repeat customer Johnny Z, and he instantly declared it a home run.
He has it slinging a black and gold vintage Gretsch which to me was an unexpected choice, but I think it looks at home, even wondrous!

I have no idea what Don is going to put his on, but am interested to see. Here's the frontside

Upper shoulder and part of the back... and, I did get the moon proper this time LOL
This below would be the strap as it comes off the shoulder and down the back...

And finally the tail end.

Will be finishing it tonight, though it is a holiday weekend and cannot send until tuesday as it is a holiday weekend up here as well,
Would have finished it last night, but my wife took me out on a "date night" and we traveled to a local cidery that's pretty new to the area, open
for their first season... and I ended up getting myself little hammered, she had to drive us home. LOL...
We enjoyed some finger foods on an outdoor patio, a charcuterie board of various delights, some flatbread pizza kind of thing, and a basket of Mango/Habanero wings
which were rather good, though I expected a bit more kick. We tried Pineapple cider, (my wife's fave), Cranberry cider, Crisp Apple, and my favourite was a Grapefruit/Hops cider
which was super A-MAZING, but had a way higher alcohol content than expected. A couple pints of that brew was like four or five glasses of wine LOL

The sun was aglow over a new apple orchard just planted off the deck, there were a lot of people out, happy and laughing, and the only damper
on the evening was there were quite a lot of somewhat aggressive wasps flying about, but if you just ignored them, not much worry.

Anyway, it was real nice to get out for a change

That dead mans hand strap is bad ass Brad.AND,the more i look at Bastard Dons strap your workin on is pretty damn cool. What is that Don your own design ? Looks like a Van Gohe painting or somethin.Damn cool.

@JohnnyGoo ….and I think it‘s for another Don…with an O…maybe.
Although I’m diggin it immensely, I have another project in mind for Brad. I’ve got to save my pennies though.
Yep, guilty :dood: . Starry Night is my FIL’s favorite painting. My wife made him a quilt a few years ago. So I thought I’d add to the family art collection:dood:

With the latest Starry Night outta here I can concentrate on another one... ordered for a hubby by a loving wife.
I hope he's not watching, but it was a facebook meetup, so I should be safe to show it here

Seems I am doing more and more tooling of late... custom order type stuff...

Zack's wife chose a cross, surrounded by roses and his name on the front with a single rose on the back

ozSlk3bT_o.jpg

This is all fairly straight-forward stuff... now beveled out. Pretty typical, but I do plan to try some neat things with the dye stages, and decorative cuts for texture.

PqbXGz4H_o.jpg

Base colour... Saddle Tan, now to let this dry and do some resist coats once it dries

q2F8JHd6_o.jpg

Also coming soon to the store... a brown and light saddle genocide strap

Hope your weekend was fun and relaxing! Mine was, when I should have been working a bit more than I did, now I'm a little behind, or as my wife would quip, more like a big behind

Daily dose of StrapLab goodness... wholesome, hearty and vitamin packed!

Started a custom ACE of Spades strap with a monogram inset on the back... I'm trying to match this magnificent paul...

btNaRZEk_o.jpg

Also, the Roses and cross thing is coming along nicely, via various dye stages, oiling and antiqueing... all that jazz
Actually, the rose and cross strap wouldn't be a terrible match for that paul, either.

Staying as busy as I wanna be! Happy Hump Day my friendlies, hope you get one

You're probably getting tired of looking at the same old work here for the past few days. Me too!

This one going to Fort McMurray, AB

Well sorry for the busted links in this thread. I just don't really have the heart, or the time to go repairing.
Forward ho!

didja miss your daily dose of strapological specimens? did you have to go to facebook to keep getting them?

If not, here's some of what you missed over the past few days

The grey/blue madness of "Elephunk"

hYdoQMX2_o.jpg

and, I do wish to carefully note to you all, I am a humane soul. No actual Elephunks were harmed in obtaining this incredible leather

also a new back buckler in Antique Saddle tan crazy horse leather called "Saddle Sore" which I would characterize as equine elegant in a western way, not quite English Saddle elegant, cool matte silver hardware on the back. Super mega comfy

fulGcDeE_o.jpg

kSo35ACJ_o.jpg

Whipped up a couple of new rare all Black Well-Hung straps, in a cool new leather I found...
This one is called "Hammered" for obvious reasons, and NOT descriptive of the state I was in while crafting it
I think this one really "slaps" as the kids say these days

pzpUUc00_o.jpg

My first ever Left-Handed guitar strap, which I will price accordingly higher than the exact same strap in
right hand configuration would be, because... tradition, and it's the "right" thing to do. It's another back
buckler, which is a very handy configuration, easy to adjust, and looks plain vintagey-cool

EUc3rpcL_o.jpg

It actually works just fine as a righty, but the whole body has a slight curve to it, due to the underlying ladies
belt it is built upon, so, marketing. This is the kind of strap that'll allow you to start naughty conversations with
the sort of ladies your wife and/or girlfriends will not approve of.

anyway more stuff coming soon, as always.

Brain teaser,

list all the beaded flags that appear on "Imperialist Scum," a brand new strap in the new in the No Prisoners series.
There are a total of nine. You might have to visit reverb to see them all. sorry not sorry

also these two are quite much fun: "Baron von Farout of Trippyton" and "Lord Paisley of Grooveshire,"
of fine strap nobility both, who are much more closely-related than good genetics would advise, as they are
both the same fabric, one side out, or other side out.

Try not to work too hard over the weekends here, on straps anyway... unless I have custom jobs waiting.
But, I like to always have something on the go, sneak down and pick away at, in-between the honey-do list.

"Bone Hunter" one is on the bench, should be done over the next couple days...

eJvZO0bV_o.jpg

don't often make light-coloured straps. But I figured I'd try one for a change.

Also, Ace of Spades #5 arrived in the UK and found it's betrothed, Andy's beautiful Paul, the strap was a gift from wife Di....

Cj17ju9v_o.jpg

Says Andy (to be read an outrageously British accent): "Not only does this strap look Ace, it is incredibly comfortable! Les Pauls are heavy, my beautiful R8 being no exception and this strap absorbs the weight effortlessly with its perfect width and padding. Also, it gives out just the right amount of grip controlling the guitar moving about brilliantly. Thanks again Brad, look out for more reviews after it’s first outing tonight"

The bigger problem I see here is Andy's apparent infestation of the dreaded Wall-Burrowing Guitar Leads. That, or he's discovered the dude in the apartment next door owns a Dumble.

"Bravado" is the latest in the Well-Hung "No Prisoners" guitar strap series.

Composed of a nice antique saddle cowhide base, rolled edges, great padding, riveted link belt secured on top.
3" wide. One only. 43"-58" ish... This is a super badass looking strap if I do say so myself

Will go up on reverb tomorrow. No sniping on this one, but I suggest if you dig it, visit the Well-Hung boutique on Reverb and follow my store.
One button press, gets you notification when I list new things. At least I think that's how it works anyhoo.

later tomorrow anyway, after dinner sometime. I expect to be boxing it Monday morning.

Well, I’m remiss in not posting this beautiful piece of art that Brad crafted for me. Just stunning in person, Starry Night #2 !

So much so, that I pulled a Warmoth body out of the box and will be doing a new guitar build for it, stay tuned…

Thanks Brad.

OH, man! Thank you for allowing me to built it/paint it for you! My pleasure, don.

Brad, I am always awed and humbled by your craftsmanship skills and creative ingenuity.

:dood::bow::bow::bow::bow::dood:

Needed some good news this morning, and you guys deliver!

Finished a few this morning, a couple of new suede cowhide Excess of X's (hendrix/gilmour) with a ladder back adjustment
rather than the traditional snaps like on the original strap.

I started "Bone Hunter over the weekend, a rare light-coloured strap from my studio... in the No Prisoners series with a bunch of antique brass grommets
and studs in a webbed belt, on a light cream coloured base.

Long day today, first thing I mailed out a Matrika to Arizona, and picked up a package in the mail chock full of new silky dragon fabric, so watch for more of those coming down the pipe soon... plus one new colour!

Also completed a piece I've been meaning to finish for maybe ten days or so, just kept putting it aside. This one is called "Djentleman's Choice," accordingly it goes up to about 65" long. That's about 15" longer than most store-bought factory ladder back straps. Little bit dark, little bit scary. Whole lot of face meltin' comfort.

wV05eEzI_o.jpg

Also a total vintage throwback... I call this one "Two by Four" featuring gorgeous braided leather, 3" wide and looks and feels like it just came straigt outta a time machine back from 1973. Goes nice and long too. Not sure the measure, def. not quite 60" I think, but I'll have all the deets up when it hits reverb probably tomorrow. Kind of want to keep this one. But man, as you may imagine, I have way too many straps already!

dykWIfij_o.jpg

Tomorrow I'll also have a pic of some new swag that might make brains boil! And this is a good thing!

Faithful Well-Hung Tribemember Rich in the UK loves his Sum Yung Long Hung Guy Dragon embroidered strap so much, he made this hilarious recruitment/trailer!

Even name alone makes some people uncomfortable, can you imagine what kind of major patootie it actually kicks while on your shoulder?

I recently restocked more silky fabric and have restocked my Reverb store with more of the traditional red/black/gold scheme. I'll also be making more colours over the next few weeks. Contacted Bruce Lee, Hugh Hefner, and Burt Reynolds to endorse this fab guitar strap, still waiting for them to get back to me.

It's a customer favourite, so I gotta give the tribe what they want!

Oh and just because Winter is Coming!
