I was going to update my NGD thread, but it seems to be MIA. :hmmm:

So anyway, I got my new pickups (Jim Wagner Godwood set) today and got them installed. They look great and they sound soooo much better than the Burstbuckers it came with.

Since the other thread is gone here's a before shot.

And here it is now...

Nice. Congrats on the guitar, and your new pickups.
Have heard wonderful things about Godwoods.

I too own an LP Standard (a cherryburst '05) where the stock Burstbuckers were not at their best.
Bridge pickup was especially harsh in that guitar.

Yeah, I thought the neck pickup was ok, but the bridge pickup was awful IMO, especially for higher gain.

The new pups look great.

I do love Burstbucker 1&2 however. Let me know if you are going to move them

The Burstbucker 1 & 2 combination that is in my ES-335 sounds quite good. But, I have heard they sound better in a semi-hollow body guitar. Because the Les Paul is an Epiphone, are they actually US made pickups, or similar spec'd pickups made at the Epiphone plant in China?

Very cool choices!

Ill back up the Burstbucker as well however: i currently have a Burstbucker 2 the bridge of a 335 Clone but opted for a 57 classic plus in the neck and actually flipped the pickup upside down, so the adjustable pole pieces were further from the neck, giving me a lil more mid ranged sound and less muffled. The Burstbucker 2 in my opinion, is incredibly powerful and excellent sounding. Very pronounced and they can clean up beautiful or get outright nasty sounding ( in a good way)

Heres a both a Burstbucker 2 and 57 Classic Plus ( around the midway part it switches back and forth between them) straight into an amp and with slight overdrive.

These are Burstbucker 61T and 61R. I assume they're different from the regular Burstbucker 1&2, but I could be mistaken. Don't get me wrong fellas, I don't think they are bad pickups at all and I really like the neck 61R, but the bridge pickup wimps out with higher gain. I like something a lot chunckier for that.

To be honest, after playing them for a couple of days now I'm not sure I like the Godwoods all that much, the neck is especially not doing it for me. The BB neck pickup sounded much better. I may be trying some other pickups.

What kind of sound are you after? What styles of music are you looking to cover? Just curious…

I do not know of import pickups labeled as burstbuckers, which also usually have the BS patent sticker. The Epj pups I have seen either say nothing or actually say Epiphone

And so it goes in the quest for the perfect tone!

Nice clip!

I'm mostly into playing hard rock and punk type stuff and old school metal like Priest, Scorpions, etc...

You would probably like the Gibson T-Top or Dirty Fingers better then. It's got a slightly higher output. The Godwoods are a PAF version most likely based on either one of Duane Allman or Eric Clapton's guitars. Mick at Manlius Pickups in Syracuse, NY makes a decent version of each. I think Don has one of those types in one of his guitars. Mine are PAF based or single coils.

I have a Darkburst set also, I think I like them better than the Godwood set, but they're in different guitars so I can't really say. Jim makes a Filmore set and a Crossroads set, the Godwoods are supposed to be a combination of the 2 somehow. The only Gibson pickups I've ever tried are the Burstbuckers and a 498T that came in a LP JR I used to have.
