Hurricane Ida........

Hurricane Katrina was a major event in my life. It was definitely a traumatic experience. This hurricane is creating a lot of anxiety in me.
I kept having the same hurricane Iniki dream over and over for many years.
After about 20 years, It stopped reoccurring. Definitely left a mark on the subconscious.

I'm looking out the window from the KUAI studio, and the 12 foot satellite dish rips off the roof, and goes sailing away over the hills like a Frisbee.
I found that dish about 300 yards away down the Hanapepe Valley, crushed and folded like an aluminum can.

The Hanapepe valley was flooded covered with water, it looked like fcking lake Mead.

This just in: apparently ALL of New Orleans is out of power and nearly 2 million total between Louisiana and Mississippi. All the power currently is running off of generators and "catastrophic damage" has been reported to the primary grid. The Mississippi River has been reported by the US Army Corps of Engineers to be reverse flowing right now due to the sustained winds.

Good on no heavy flooding, bad on infrastructure though

UPDATE:

My daughter lost most of their garage, part of the roof including all the gutters, awnings are gone. There is some interior water damage, no running water supply to the house, no electricity (they do have a generator.) Missing a lot of siding from the house, no cell service, but they are safe.

Mandatory curfew in place and it could be weeks before power is restored and a boil order is in effect.

So happy they’re safe. All the material stuff can be repaired. Thanks for letting us know John. Lots of us worried for our extended TTR family that were affected by this storm.

In light of the strength of this storm, that’s good news. They still have a house and the rest can be fixed. Must have been a helluva ride through the storm.

I'm sorry to hear this. If she's in need of anything, please let us know!

Happy and relieved to hear that your daughter and family are safe and well and have four walls and a roof still standing over them, GW!! I agree with IB, all things material can be repaired or replaced. Let us know how we can help!

The Mississippi flows backwards,
I believe that the Chicago river runs uphill also...
I tried that out of power thing, for about 3 months.
The biggest thing I missed was hot water. Otherwise I learned to be comfortable without electricity.

Firstly, I am NOT trying to make light of anyone's circumstance with this horrible storm.
All I can add is that she might need an SG and a Marshall Origin at some point, Zzzzz....:)

Yes I know I cannot do much from here, hope she is insured and I am happy everyone is OK. I hate water.
And kudos Zzzzz to you, i am just yankin your chain... maybe in poor taste.....
