New Traynor bass amp day. My wife was taking our granddaughter to the city shopping. I was the driver because she has an infection in her eye and the hour long trip aggravates it. They went into a Value Village, my grand’s favourite store. I went to the local Long & McQuade to pick up some strings. I’ve been looking for a small bass amp for use at home and small gigs with XLR out for bigger gigs. I’ve been watching for one of these to come up on Craig’s List.

They sell for $529 new and I haven’t found one under $400 new. I was surprised to see they had two used and one new in stock. One of the used ones was $299, the other $459. I asked a salesman why one was so cheap. He said they took it in trade and it had been in the shop for almost a year so they were clearing it out. I tried it out with a MIM PBass. It was awesome, lots of low end thump and surprisingly loud. After bit of dickering he was down to $275 ($216 US). I asked about warranty and he said 90 days but I could extend it for an extra year for $21. Their warranty is very good and covers live use. I told him give me the year extension on top of the 90 days for $275. He packed up the amp and it is in my music room now. Jamming with some friends next Tuesday so I’ll post a review and some pictures then.

120 watts with a ten inch may not be enough oomph. Should be ok for small acoustic jams but with a heavy drummer it might be light. It was very loud in the store. I’ll know more next week. It is more than enough for practicing at home.
Trayner has been a good amp. You might want to try mounting an EVM 10" speaker into that bad boy. Somewhat difficult to locate and expensive, but the mightiest 10" bass speaker ever produced. It will add 10 pounds to the weight etc.

Buy a EVM 10, then send it to electrovoice and get it rebuilt.
It will be worth the effort.
EV is very nice when it comes to rebuilds, they do a great job.
Then you will have an epic speaker that you love.

If you would like to run internal speaker and external speaker at the same time, it is best to start with a 16 ohm internal speaker.
This allows connecting the most external speakers possible.

But Canada is standardized to 8 ohm speakers.
Making 16 ohm harder to locate....
or the speaker can be rebuilt with a 16 ohm voice coil by EV.
