Well, it's done been stuck.
Hated having to waste the strings that were on there, they were only a couple of years old.
Moved the bridge pickup to the middle, and put the Birch in the bridge.
Changed the wiring a bit. Now neck & middle run through the 3 way switch, and occupy one set of volume & tone controls.
The Birch in the bridge also has it's own volume & tone. This allows all the pickup combinations including all three at once.
The verdict...
It's a pickup, it picks up string wiggles and translates it into sound voodoo.
It does what the other two do, BUT...
I'm surprised it's not louder and more dynamic.
It's bright, but lacking oomph. Almost to the point of sounding thin.
It's not out of phase with the other two, nor is it too far from the strings. Both coils are working.
500k pots, .022uF tone caps.
The other pickups are the stock Gibbo's, reputed to be "Classic 57's". No markings on them except for "pat. applied for" tags.
But they have more substance and body to the sound. More all around volume & presence as well.
Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained...

But it would still have the same output level.
And with those porcupine looking pole piece screws, it might even get in the way of the strings in the neck spot.
I have a couple of one meg pots in the shed, but I don't think one would help.
Don't need brighter, need louder.

Perhaps it does need to be in a guitar by itself.
Chilli had mentioned that yesterday.
It doesn't sound bad by itself, it may just be a poor match with the other two.
It's OK, no harm done, no surgery needed, nothing ruined. Just a little soldering.

Those specs seem a bit odd. You should check the resistance on that pickup and download the free gauss app to your phone and see how strong that magnet/s is/are. Those specs you posted have 13k and 16k coil specs. That is ridiculously high for a coil. Might be doable with 44 awg wire, but I haven't even made it to 6k with 42 awg. This would be about 8k with 43 awg. 43 has roughly 30% more resistance per foot. You could then pack more wire on the bobbin with 43 awg. Maybe into the area of 10k ohms. I'm not familiar with the specs on 44 awg, so can't really speculate.

I used 2 different wattage irons today and 2 different diameters of solder. How does that make you feel?
