Riot Works Tuners

I like those! I wonder why they chose 3/8” for the tuner hole diameter? Schallers and Sperzels are 25/64”.

I definitely like the idea and the aesthetics are pretty cool, but who really wants to be breaking out a tiny allen wrench when you snap a string at a show. This is one of the reasons I avoid Floyd Rose equipped guitars.
Hell I don't even want to be looking for one at home. It's a cool idea but I think they need to engineer a system that doesn't require an allen wrench.

40:1 ratio, that's really good.
Made in Oregon, that's good.
Allen wrench needed to change a string, that's really lame.

I like them a lot. They are well machines, precision devices and eliminate the need for string trees. Staggered tuners are usually an upcharge.
I wonder if a 1/64” slop would be noticed if I put them in a 25/64” tuner hole?

They should include a really strong magnetic plate to mount on the rear of the headstock for the Allen wrench !
typically Small little allen wrench screws wear out and strip the screw head really easily....
and the wrenches typically wear out fast too.

This is the "repair kit," $4.99. Imagine you will be needing this...

Interesting thread Mr. Tuners!

Personally, I dont like the look or $100. price tag.

I wonder about that sharp break angle where the string leaves the tuner and heads toward the nut.
Its probably ok with the chamfer.

Does look like an interesting design and a good quality product.
I dont like the idea of extra tools, but it is not uncommon (floyd bridge, etc.) and a few tools are involved in maintaining a guitar anyway, so no beef there.

Hah, I just bought a stainless set. They’ll look good somewhere :dood:
ill be anxiously awaiting the NTD thread. I change strings about as often as ......... well....... once generally.... and then it flips out --- lol

I was being ornery this morning and taking a counter point to the thread........ really I wouldnt buy them but ya'll have fun with them ratios ;)

I understand if you think it is ugly, but I find the concerns about stage quick changes unrealistic. Is winding up a tuning peg while holding the string tight supposed to be some sort of quick change? If your string breaks on stage, you will need a new guitar or a 5 minute break either way. Also, I do not think many people here do that. Even the quickest locking tuner setup will interrupt a song to the extent that it is a nullity. The fastest string change I could imaging is 60 seconds and that is if you had the string unwrapped and in your front shirt pocket.

Also, the allen key is SUCH a common tool for guitarist. I have dozens of them scattered throughout rooms and cases. So now they are considered to be cumbersome and prone to failure?

This setup could not be easier - pull it through and lock it down. And it will stay put, unlike most winds that the average guitarist makes around a post (including me).

I agree that a steeper slot on the headstock side of the nut may be beneficial, but the upside is no string trees that cause many issues of their own - and are unsightly IMO.

I guess the death of this is that it is different. Guitarists hate that.

Remind me of the Steinbergers that my Firebird had. First, too high a ratio for my taste - you gotta turn the things too many times to dial in the pitch. Second, more complicated than the 'bergers and too hard to change the strings. That's before we get to the look that, while I am sure some will love, is definitely an acquired taste for most of us.

40 is very high and may be cumbersome if you are doing a lot of trem work that throws your guitar off pitch. Of course, unstable tuning due to a trem is a separate issue that should be addressed.

For me, once a guitar is in tune, it stays that way unless it remains unplayed for long enough for the neck to shift - or it is a Gibson!!

I hear you man. But it's going to be super hard to earn that :ROFLMAO: if we're being all serious and stating facts.

And I dont mean a gratuitous :ROFLMAO:, I mean the kind where you totally have to loosen your pants up to get enough air so you can think clearly enough to click the :ROFLMAO: button - like really EARN it.

It's my mission and my duty.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
I have a preference for words, so how about this: "Good one brother!!"

But now I’ll need to accessorize them with a new neck. That will lead to a new body, that will lead to new parts... :rolf:
