I do understand Tony M's cautionary words. I'm finding that I like this forum the best of those I've been on, but I do think it's good to avoid a "we're better than everybody else" mentality.
I'm not saying that has happened here. I see the attitude here, so far, as one of excitement and energy over something that's new and seems to scratch an itch many have felt. But, such sentiments can devolve into a sense of superiority. Again, I'm not suggesting that has been displayed by anyone here. It's more of an acknowledgement of a risk.
But, the words about treating others with respect are always welcome.
There's also the reality that peoples' interests change and grow over time. I'll take my experience at ETSG as an example. When I came to that forum, it was after I had, more or less, rediscovered my '74 SG, and wanted to learn more about it. A specialized forum is what I wanted and needed. Along the way, I had gotten to interact with a wide variety of great people.
Now, my interests are a little different. I'm more interested in the broader spectrum of guitars. My oft-posted collection runs the gamut from an el cheapo ES-335 clone (my Washburn) all the way to a very pricey Gibson Les Paul Custom. SGs remain my preferred electric guitar, but I enjoy the broader spectrum of this forum. I also like that price point is not a determining factor in guitar appreciation. That's just where I am...it's not an indictment of any other forum.
As for the link in the OP, I read it. I prefer not to paint that entire forum with one brush, but, I agree. That exchange could have been handled better.
