Facebook.

I setup a Facebook account in 2006 or 2007. I didn't use it much and today it is used by my wife, a lot. She's more of a lurker than a poster and uses it to stay in touch with family. I didn't like all the drama on FB so I just didn't stick around.

I have a love and hate relationship with Facebook.

I kinda need it because I have several friends and even family members with whom the only line I have is FB. They aren't into whatsapp or telegram or any other cell phone chatting app, and I don't do other social media except for instagram, which I use mostly to broadcast bans and music related stuff.

Many times I thought of ditching social media but the world isn't the late 80s anymore (sadly) and sometimes you just gotta have that, otherwise you just don't get to gig or to draw any public to your gigs. Instagram is also a great way to discover other musicians, other bands...

Hell, when I was a kid back in, say, '89 or '92 I'd never even think I'd actually talk to a former Chapter President of the real California Hells Angels, or a Guitar World editor, or any of the guitarists I admired. And I did, via instagram and Facebook.

You're braver than I am then. I don't even talk to family or friends that won't contact me directly outside of social media. Which basically means I don't talk to them. Maybe I should get them all to signup on TTR, but that just means they would see the real me....

It's not like they 'won't' contact me outside social media.

I have family I've never met in person (second cousins, an aunt) and they live in Baltimore, while I was born and raised in Brazil. They are much older than me and they like to keep in touch with everyone via FB. I also have GOOD friends with whom I've had several good moments, even exchanged gear by mail and helped each other when hard times came, divorces, loss of loved ones... and they live in other countries, USA, Mexico, UK... I'd lose a lot of friendships if I stuck to phone calls or in person meetings. These people are dear to me and I just can't expect them to keep making international calls all the time...

As for these folks I mentioned at the end of my post, why not talk to them? I'm into music and rock n roll ambients like motorcycle clubs, just like them.

Yeah I know where you're coming from on that one Joe. I tried to adopt the live and let live approach but it eventually got too much.
Honestly, you and Micky were to two hard swallows from the fallout.
