I'm sure most of you know by now that this guitar is my favorite object in the universe.

I love everything about it except... the volume pot. I don't know what the pots are that it came with, they are full size, but are just labeled "MADE IN KOREA" with a manufacturing date.
They work just fine, the only problem is that they are linear taper, and I much prefer audio taper. When I would turn down the volume pot, there would be only a very slight difference from 10 to 2, then a huge drop off from 2 to 0. Also, the sound would darken up substantially when I turned the volume knob down. Even though I have it wired "50's style".
For years now I have been telling myself: "Self, someday we need to change out the volume pot with an audio taper pot." Well I just did it. I put in a CTS 10% tolerance 500K audio taper pot.
Here's the surprise. I think the original pot must have been a 250K as well as linear taper, because when I put the new pot in, it not only has a MUCH better taper, but now the guitar is more lively. More high frequency clarity, with what I would describe as a more open resonant sound in all frequencies. Also, much less high end loss when I turn down the volume. I was expecting the better taper, but the more open resonant sound is a bonus.
I thought the guitar was pretty much perfect, but now it's even more perfecter.
