Just an FYI. I've had this a couple weeks now and I can't stop smiling when I play my SC. It's what it should have sounded like straight out of the gate. Such a great mod for an 800.

Anyways it's built by Legendary Tones. Check the website for info and clips. I'd do one but I'll end up smashing my phone for ruining the sound. The playing is always my fault.:giggle:

It will work with a few Marshallz. There are a couple versions of it. Info on which one is there.

Id been following these for a lil while now, including the Hot Mod V2 of theirs. Absolutely bone crushing tone and its phenomenal what it can achieve. Its definitely derived from the old Soldano Hot Mod of the 80s but unlike that one where the tube used was ultra rare and hard to manufacture; this design is much simpler and more effective

I have an Origin 50H.

The builder David told me to try it with the Ori. Said either it will connect or not but won't hurt anything trying.

Unfortunately it did not connect/work. If he builds one for it I'll be getting one.
I was watching that thread at "the other place"

I has the disappoints- Lol.

If it was successful, that was going to be my next purchase. Oh well, I'm sure something else will catch my eye/ wallet.

I'm interested, how does it differ from pushing the amp with an OD?

The problem of this and an Origin as well as lots of other amps including Silver Jubilees, Mesas and HiWatts is the following from Legendary Tones themselves: "Popular amps that the HMV2/Lynch Mod do NOT work with because they do not use the classic cathode follower design topology include the Marshall Silver Jubilee series, most Mesa Boogie amps, and Hiwatt"

There is a list however of amps it DOES work on and that is :

MARSHALL (VINTAGE, JMP):
1986, 1987, 1987T, 1959, 1959HW (reissue), 1968, 1992, 2203, 2204, 1989, 2245 (JTM 45)

MARSHALL JCM 800:
2000 (V3 position), 1987, 1959, 2103, 2203, 2203KK, 2104, 2204, 2205 (pre 1984 only), 2210, 4010, 4104, 4210, 4211

MARSHALL JCM 900:
2500, 2501, 2502, 2100, 2101

MARSHALL VINTAGE REISSUE:

MARSHALL STUDIO:
This new series of mini 20 watt heads require the removal of the L bracket and thumbscrew so that the units can fit into the PCB-mounted socket in the amp which does not use a base tube shield.

SC20H/SV20H (Heads only)

NOTE: Standard non-reverse wired Hot Mod V2s that have an “H” “H+” or “SC” marking on the bottom plate ARE already compatible with the following Studio series heads. If your Hot Mod V2 does NOT have these markings, email david@legendarytones.com and I can upgrade your wiring for FREE (just include $8 to cover return shipping) so that your HMV2 can be compatible with a wider range of amps including the Marshall Studio Series.

All standard-wired Lynch Mod and 2021 HOT MOD V2 EVO models are already fully compatible with the SV/SC heads.

ORDER REVERSE WIRE REISSUE (RI) VERSION OF THE HOT MOD V2/LYNCH MOD TO USE WITH THE FOLLOWING AMPS:

NOTES ON OTHER AMPS
CLONES:
The Hot Mod V2 has been found to work well in a variety of Marshall 1959/1987/2203/2204 clone and similar circuits including: Ceriatone, Germino, Mojotone, Wangs, and Bugera (Bugera needs reverse wired model and is compatible with pre-Infinium 1960 model).

This is from the site as well , so hopefully this explains a bit of the differences:

"With the HOT MOD V2 EVO (HMV2E), because the increased gain is created inside the amp rather than through an external pedal booster running in front of the input, the noise level of the HMV2E is dramatically reduced even at higher gain settings compared to when using an overdrive or EQ pedal used as a clean boost. Additionally, when playing the HMV2E, your signal will still clean up well by rolling back your guitar’s volume control. And if for some reason you still wanted more gain from an external pedal to shape or increase the signal gain further, you can still do it. You likely won’t need to, but go ahead and hit the front end of your amp with a hotter signal and the HMV2E will take it just fine!"

Thats been the #1 asked question to Legendary Tones themselves by customers apparently lol so id say its only a matter of time before they rig something up to work on that design. Its a potential cash boom market for them, so why wouldnt they?

And it doesn't eliminate the FX loop (in the Origin 50H) like the Friedman mod does.

I just emailed them directly.

Hmmm... not a permanent mod? Is reversible?

I do have an amp on the list. Very interesting.

If you don't mind me asking, any idea of the cost?

I'd sure like to try this out with my JTM45, as long as it's safe, not permanent etc.....

Interesting indeed....................
