can't find a glossary here so can't figure out what quoting a post means

I don't get it. What is the point? Seems like it just does a cut and paste but why would anyone want to do that to my posts?
It's also a way of reaching further back into a longer thread to address what someone may have said 15 posts ago, and retaining some context for your reply.
It can make a thread seem a bit more disjointed, but you can click on the 'up' arrow next to the 'Tori said:' to be taken back to that part of the thread.

If you want to quote only part of a post, highlight the text you want to quote, then an option bubble appears. Click on +Quote, and that text is presented as an option to quote in the text box.

Hey Sky how are you man? I dont see you here very often..

Is it snowing where you are? Down south its snowing some plaices but not in Brighton :)

No snow today in Yorkshire, but it's f**kin' cold!

I'm doing OK @Ramo. I do poke my nose in most days at TTR, but if I don't think I have anything useful to say I just leave a trail of 'likes'.

I do the same thing, when things get too technical talking about pots, ohms, generally taking guitars and amplifiers apart and modifying them....i generally keep my mouth shut. always been a plug and play type of musician. love gear but the inner workings eludes me aside from pickup swaps :P
