I quit the band tonight to be able to change directions. I just feel like 7 days a week (total between work and band) is too much - at least right now - I'm exhausted constantly.

And... My wife has long wanted to move to Texas. After coming home from seeing our daughter in South Carolina last week, she is accelerating the timeline. I won't have the same opportunities in the entertainment/recording industry, so it will likely require a career change.

Big changes going down.

Even with music it’s good to give yourself a break or else you’ll burn out. After pumping out song after song I had to give myself a month off just to let my creative juices recharge.

As far as Texas and music goes... it really depends on what area.. for metal, forget about Houston, in Houston if it’s not Rap or Country you are going to have a hard time, Austin is more alt rock and as far as metal, the market is more for extreme sub-genres, like death-core and grind core. Although Judas Priest had a concert back in 2019 in Austin so maybe not too bad. San Antonio would be another decent place.

Oh man, i wish you the best. The music thing is so tricky... when ya really into it,,live..breathe..sleep it..it can tear ones soul up at times,

my initial thought was your country side.. that could come out !! I feel ya.. music at the core for a long time..it becomes a way of life. The artist is never satisfied..constant personal challenge

You will come out on top..your talent level & work ethic are top notch !!

Wow,
Definitely "big" changes.

Follow your inner voice Robert, you already have your plan mapped out- you may not be convinced yet, but you know you're ready for some sort of change.

Never let that little voice of doubt/ ego, trip you up from your path brotha.

It's that part of us that doesn't like change, or challenge, silence him, follow whatever plan you decide, and know you have more support and positive energy than you even realize.

Best of luck with whatever decisions you make, we got your back bro.

WTF Robbie? I thought you had a good thing going with the band! But you got to do what's right for you and your family. So, what's the connection between "daughter in South Carolina" and "moving to Texas"?

This band is GREAT people...probably the best bandmates ever...but, I've been burning myself out with music.

Keep in mind that "Bad Dog" is one of 3 bands I am currently supporting, and those other bands are also going to need to be revisited.

Yes, really big Changes indeed.

I know that I will need to work for a few more years, and I doubt I will find work in a studio full-time there. A band to join...yes, probably so, but when the change takes place, ill need to replace my current income ($200/day) which isn't going to be easy in this current pandemonium.

It takes courage to reinvent yourself, and you always do it successfully. Go get 'em Robert!

I'll probably do something in oil field work to start out, just because the field is wide open, even for people without degrees.

From there??? I don't know really...maybe law school...again???

But until then, I'm still a musician for a living. Quitting this band only freed up my Monday and Thursday evenings...I've still got other bands and the studio work too.

My wife has maintained for years that she wants out of California. The recent death of her Mom (on New Years' Day) really had an accelerating effect on the proposition.

The pandemic really is secondary to that event too...
Sorry about your MIL’s passing, condolences to your family. I can understand about getting out of CA. Without getting into politics, this is a very high cost of living state. Some of the highest taxes in the country, hell we even tax cow farts, no kidding.
