Why Do We "Over-Trick" Everything???

Yeah i went for just short of a year without touching a guitar a good while ago and it really set me back. Had a bunch going on and admittedly was in a bit of a funk. Not saying depressed but just unhappy and i walked away from the ONE thing thats always made me happy. Bad choice and never again
I have done that twice, but as you said never again !!!

Leaving the guitar behind for a sabbatical, is not the same as doing the same by not riding a bike. You can leave riding a bike for a year get back on one, in a few minutes your back riding. Not with playing guitar you will lose your speed, timing, forget about some of the chords or notes to play a song etc etc.
No doubt.

I, like many others, took a sabbatical during my "raising the children years".

When I finally did get back to playing it was so frustrating, it's no fun when your brain knows what to be done, but your hands betray you.

But it seems like I have acquired different skills. I now can pick apart music way more logically.

Just can't always pull off the physical portion.

Oh well, just fix it in the mix lol.

I took a couple years of lessons on acoustic for school band in 8th grade. Thumb picks, I did pick up a Kramer and a Rockman for a moment but then was bounced around from foster home to foster home. Then straight into the Army and then raising kids, now kids are grown and I thought I would try again 30 years later, work can be taxing on call 24/7 and I keep putting it away for months on end for years now. Now that things have slowed down to a nothing with work and my daughter is straightened out for the most part I am trying to focus back in on learning all over again. I listen to music all the time and I can picture what's going on but not actually know the right :poo: to get there. Thank god I like making noise! True story the other day I was practicing...noodling....I hit a couple chords into a riff and couldn't remember what song I was attempting or why, I use to way back in the day could play some songs and stuff for the school band, anyway Dawn was sitting there and she said she knew what it was to. So I recorded it with my phone because I couldn't figure out what I was trying to play.......I know why now.....I was playing it all wrong just sort of the rhythm for La Grange.....was having a complete mind blank because I listen to ZZ a lot. :hide:

A how-how-how :dood:
I had it in my head how the riff was suppose to be even though I didn't actually remember what I was attempting, and then I was utoobn and saw Billy at Daryl's house and it was La Grange and it hit me like a ton of bricks and I was all wrong....
And yes the distortion was over the top, I was tweaking my RAT and yellow drive but I thought I was in the ballpark..:ROFLMAO: Now I am going to try and learn it the right way...
and just to show the story is true I will embarrass meself...

You're very close to the cadence there...

Thanks, I couldn't think of what I was trying to play and Dawn was sitting there trying to figure it herself. Will be practicing it and getting the tone worked out. I was watching him play it and he starts off clean and then kicks in the dirt. One of these days one of my clips will be worth a damn lol

Hell even playing as little as I do, I have to go back to my Utube channel to remember song parts that I have played already ,, lol
ive never played the EXACT SAME NOODLE twice........hell Ill start a rythm ... hold it a few bars -- wonder off on a jazz improve .....and cant remember for the LIFE of me what the NOODLE Rythm was I was just playing 3 or 4 bars ago............so.....something else happens......and thats good for a bit -- then oh wait --- a squirrel........................

What I believe is that they are all worth a damn, plus after a couple years you can see / hear an improvement, and also in my case ,, remember them !!
Thanks for sharing brother
Cheers

My problem is I may think that it has a strong chance of being something interesting, go grab a beer and it’s lost , so now I record it with my phone, then get the beer, ha ha .
Maybe one of these days I will have some other like minded people to jam with, and their input could make some more things sound better.
Cheers
Mitch
