...Welp... I’ve held off about as long as I could.

I was mainly looking at Ibanez because I’m familiar with their necks. My hands sit at a nice medium but I only really ever pick up the bass when I’m recording and every now and then quick changes where I have to stretch to hit a note has caused a painful pop in my hand.
The SR's have a really narrow neck like a Jazz bass.
My SR500 was only 4-string, but I would imagine an SR 5-string neck wouldn't be much wider than a Stingray 4-string (like I have now).
That is one of the reasons I miss the feel of the SR500E so much.

BTW The shop I got it from had a range of Ibanez SR models to try, but the SR500 I bought played better than all the more expensive ones.
It wasn't the pickups that sold it, it was playing the bass in person.
Do not just click to buy.
Go down there and see what speaks to you.

So I went to guitar center and tried out a few of the suggestions that Adrian chimed I’m with, (also it turns out the Ibanez sr505e is just out of the limit of the card thanks to tax) but what really caught my eye was this.... https://www.musiciansfriend.com/bas...KtMlYExBsrWWqnUBD0O9L-CixKLbDNA0aAnVKEALw_wcB

Out of the basses I tried, this one sounded best to my ear. Slight bit of fret buzz in the higher octaves but nothing a setup couldn’t fix.. so I went home and ordered it.

DUDE --- that looks KILLER !
lovethe necks on Schecter basses that will get the job DONE Son!
Thanks! :) so it’s got Schecter active pickups and 2 band eq. This bass tends to favor the bottom end of the tonal spectrum, which... I mean.. in my mind that’s kinda the point of a bass. “Boom axe want go boom? Boom axe go boom!” But if I find out its too much for my mix, the eq knobs can definitely help with that. I was highly considering the LTD but looking at reviews, that one particular LTD has problems with dead frets and I wanted to take advantage of the musiciansfriends 48 month no interest, so I really did not want to take a chance of getting a bass with dead frets.

Then as you pointed out, Schecter necks.. I mean... they are just comfortable. Also it kinda looks like the color of blood so if I have to sacrifice goats to make a deal with the devil for some extra skill then at least i wont have to worry about it splattering all over the boom axe.

I think overall I got what I was aiming for. It needs to stand out and go boom, I mean all that’s left is to see if I can actually play what’s in my head. I got the idea for an intro and several riff ideas, so tomorrow I know I can at least get the intro done and play around with drum beats, I gotta wait about 5-6 days before it arrives so I can start working on everything else.

Killer deal...... try not to harm any goats though ---

Ive played MANY of those in guitar shops and almost brought several home --

I have found through MUCH TRIAL AND ERROR active bass pups arent my "thing" ........Im just dicking around in my office--- bass is played solo -- with maybe a backing track or song I am playing along to on the computer......PUNCHING through isnt required and the extra $ for active pups....batteries etc ends up meaning I have to turn the amp back -- to keep from rattling the place apart.....

And as I say -- this is why they make ALL KINDS of gear. Congrats on the new baby--- cant wait to hear the end results!! ;)

Well... unfortunately I got this email. A8A03107-7530-4BB7-BE76-365FE1958D36.pngAnd just before that I received an explanation that because of delayed shipping times, the website didn’t update showing that the bass was out of stock. If I had to take a guess, I’m willing to bet it will ship out to me next month. A bit annoying but this forces me to really take my time with the next song. I got the intro down and ran it through some people and, really got the effect I wanted it to have. So there’s that :p.

Metal that is one SHWEET looking Bass! it will be worth the wait. Pics when you get it(y)
Oh I believe you, minor inconvenience is all.
Metal that is a killer bass brother!
Can’t wait to hear your new song bro, you have been putting out some great music. And I anticipate hearing the next from your vault of riffs.
Cheers
Mitch
Actually been working on that today, honestly I think it’s the heaviest I’ve played so far while still being melodic. :)
