I did discover something to use as a stretching exercise for reaching upper frets on a Lester: the solo in "Don't Stop Believin'", by Journey.
The last three notes in the solo are a B, a D# and an E. You have to put your index finger on the high B (fret 19) on the high E string, and pick that note. Then you have to stretch to the 22nd fret on the high E. That is a D natural. But, before picking the note, you have to bend it sharp to a D#, then you pick the note. Finally, you bend it just a little more to an E, and pluck the last note and let it sustain just a bit. That will build some dexterity! Because you actually have to bend the string to a specific pitch, this allows you to work on control while your hand is stretched out, not just hitting a certain fret.
