New Used Guitar Day Gibson Explorer

Awesome! The '76 natural finished Explorers look almost as good as the originals. I've always loved Guitarweasle's '76. Grrrreat looking and sounding guitars. The reissues of the '76 are always quite good. They should just make that as the "Explorer Standard" model.

Hey 67 and SGJOHN, Mitch, etc., Does anyone know if the 76 Explorer neck has a narrow nut like 1 9/16 1 5/8, or is it wider like a 1 11/16+?

My Original 1976 SG Std has a narrow one. Like 1 9/16

Was yours one of the natural finished ones that was supposed to be a '58 reissue (without the name), or one of the solid finished ones that was just the Explorer '76 or whatever re-introduction they gave them? I think when the NOBHM guys got their hands on them, the narrow nut was sort of preferred. In the eighties, everything went back to the wider fingerboards for finger-tapping, legato, sweep picking, and all the newer speed and orchestral metal styles were developing.

A couple of my SGs have the narrow nut with a much rounder neck profile. They are comfortable for certain styles, but I've really been enjoying going back to a wide nut with a bit slimmer neck profile. Much more forgiving for fumbling around.
