Solid State. Love it? Hate it?

So gball I take it by your responses as a "hate it"?
Brad appears in a jolly mood, but hints appear to lean toward an allergy to silicone based circuits.....
The rest confuse me some. Much like when interviewing a witness:

Officer: "Did you see what happened? "
Witness: "Well sort of, yes. I was upstairs in the closet um... looking for what to wear to work tomorrow. Was thinking about a blue shirt and tan or khakis for pants."
Officer : "Did you see what happened? "
Witness : "Sorta, I mean I was right here wasn't I? And that guy must a had that beating coming right? He's a gangster right?"
Officer : "It was an 86 year old man shot for his wallet. The only gang he's a member of is the Senior Center where he plays dominoes every week."
Witness : "Well see? I told you it was gang related!"

Actions speak louder than words.
Here are some words:

I played 11 years of weddings, dinner dances and fund
raisers with a Roland JC 77 and 5 Boss pedals.
It sounded fine.
I also gigged a lot with a Tech21 Trademark 60,
a Vox 847 and a Zoom 505 II.
It sounded fine.
Now I'm using Supro tube amps and High end pedals.
It sounds fine.

The really nice thing about SS amps is that a Roland Cube 30
backup amp lives in the trunk of my car year round in NYC.
Try that with a tube amp.

Wade... I like solid state. My practice amps are both solid state, and I have no issue with them at all. My son has an Orange 35W Bass amp that's solid state, and that's awesome also! I prefer my tube amp, but I have absolutely no issue with SS amps either. Hope this answers your question...

Solid State?

Weren't they in the NCAA Basketball tournament this year?

I thought they played Michigan State....or, maybe it was Iowa State?

WHAT?

No. Hate is too strong a word. Solid state has its uses, and my own practice amp is SS (and I love it for what I use it for).
I am just saying there is still a pretty big chasm between the best ss and the best tube amps for band/gigging volumes. If you start adding lesser tube amps to the mix or SS improves significantly in the next few years then the brew might come out different, but for now tubes are still king.

I know a few that are using this Fractal Audio Systems Axe-Fx II Guitar Processor, Preamp, effects processor, amp modeler, guitar effects, amp modeling
That said Iv'e built the tube amps I love plug and play. One thing I do HATE is the tubes manafactiured since 1974
Now I'm switching over to HI FI I rebuilt a 300B power amp only 15 watts per channel the best sounding amp so far.
I would LOVE to try a RCA 300B guitar amp but $2000.00 per power tube never.
Bass amps with tube preamps and solidstate power amps sound fine.

Before I give Wade an aneurism, I better answer the question.

Do I like solid state? Not as much as I used to. I take it this is referring to solid state amps.

My first amp was solid state - a Peavey Studio Pro 40. My next amp was also solid state - a Peavey Transtube 212. I liked them both quite a bit. I still have the Transtube. I still consider it to be a good amp.

However, at some point I decided to try tube amps, just to see what all the hub-bub was about. I didn't like the tube amps at all. I found them much harder to control because of their sensitivity to touch dynamics. They seemed to behave differently with gain and effects, too. Honestly, I nearly gave up on them.

However, I decided to stick with it. Now, I've learned how to use the dynamics and benefit from them. So, today I don't dislike solid state, but it's not my first choice.

I like solid state.
I have a mustang v head, love it.
I have a peavy studio, hate it
Love + hate = like

You are aware that a thread already exists called: WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE AMP right? That's the one where y'all post pictures and carry on about your favorite amp. Or did I misread that? I did initially start this with what must have been a confusing post thus I cut it to the quick with what I thought to be a rather simple question. Yet with the exception of a couple, the answer runs in vague circles and says practically nothing. Of a long list of all sorts of amps and pictures of Sam Jackson.
Smitty was right. Y'all gonna make something pop in my head. At the risk of sounding too direct and rude, do you even bother to read stuff or just simply post just for sh*ts and giggles?
Honestly I try to stay up with the humour but I'm from a different age and definitely a different culture where one gets a reasonable answer to a reasonable question. I guess I'm not cut out for this stuff. So I'm taking a vacation. Talk to y'all later. I know one thing, I'll not ask any more questions. Just a grumpy old man at times true enough, and I can clearly see I must be behind the times as well. Chow.....
