I Was Once Known As 'El Extremo' - My Not-So-New Motorcycle Saga:

Looking at F150's to replace the Mustang with.

I've never owned or desired a truck, but the local Municipal Water District has started erecting gates in the mountain areas around our home, effectively making it impossible for me to ride out from the house. All my pathways up and over the mountains behind our home are being blockef off...

I’m the boring one here, I guess.

I’ve never played any kind of extreme sport.

I’ve never broken a bone or even had a cavity!

I’ve been a passenger on a Honda Goldwing once. I’ve never actually ridden a motorcycle. I don’t even like driving a car fast.

Oddly, I don’t feel like I really missed out on anything!

I did climb a lot of trees when I was a kid, though!

Smitty, you forgot the most extreme thing Almost ALL of you guys have done. That NO CAVITY part is AMAZING THOUGH.
So, when I say you did the most intense and crazy thing ever, I say MAN you did it for sure. Got married and had kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't say I have tried that ride yet.

I was once known as "Stick boy"
because I was 6' and 145 lbs----my friends said I had to RUN AROUND IN THE SHOWER TO GET WET---
I went to the gym a lot and changed that ---now im 6' and 195/200 depending ---but only gained a couple waist sizes ....... :)

Graduated high school at 18, 1982, Stood a whopping 5'9.5 and weighed all of 145-148 lbs. By the time I graduated college 4 years later, I was still the same everything and my waist was swimming in size 33 waist Levis due to liking to have room for my legs and not too tight. As Adrian, Smitty, Chasfred, Voxy, and Hack will attest, I've added almost 100 lbs onto my once teeney frame.
Pretty sure Voxy will explain what 30 years of humping 100's of thousands of pounds of building materials and tools will do to a young lad who is now twice the man the boy was.

How could you have not owned a truck, Robert? What was that old Farm looking one I remember seeing pics of from when you were a kid? As you know, my first car was my 72 Datsun 510 which I actually hauled lumber in a time or 2. Then my first non motorcycle vehicle I ever bought was a 1977 F100. Have never NOT had a truck ever since. Had the 1977 then an 88 F250 4x4. The F100 I put on over 100K from the 115k+ it had when I got it. Then my 88 had about 135k and now has over 337k on it. Acquired a 1994 F150 Extended cab a couple years back for a dollar from a friend's dad and have been driving it on it's way to 200K till I get the F250 back in shape. I always joked with folks that if I won the lottery I would not buy a new truck, I will fix up my 250 and be buried in it after my last day.

Robert, have you also considered a VAN? Lots of dirtbike racing friends have made good use of vans. Holds bikes, tools, bedding, etc..............Or even better, a sweet box van, or even as I enjoy with my truck, a trailer whether enclosed or open.

Neighbors ask, "Why does your lawnmower smell so good???"

1: Where do you get 110 octane fuel?
2: How does it affect the lawnmower?
3: Do you know anything about the pros and cons of fuel stabilizer additives?

Big Bell Mine at Chloride City, California - about 5 miles from the Nevada border. It's a full day's ride to get there. I slept really comfortable on those old bed springs...
You must be in pretty good shape to do these types of activities!

First and foremost, my bike is a bonafide racing machine with ultra high compression and 100 octane is required. These bikes run smoother and cooler on leaded fuels and lead is the best anti-knock compound, bar none.

You can buy 100-110 fuel from any fuel distributor. When i do not have access to high octane fuel, i use Kemco Octane Supreme - a Tetraethyl Lead (TEL) additive at 2.4 ounces per gallon in 91 octane super.

I use the 110 leaded in the lawnmower because i always have 15-20 gallons on hand. The lawnmower doesn't require leaded fuel, but it starts easier - both hot and cold - and it smells good too...LOL

I add 4 ounces per 5 gallons of Marvel Mystery Oil to help retard float bowl evaporation and the red/pink color reminds me that the fuel has lead added.

Ethanol Stabilizers...

I use Chevron Powersports Ethanol Stabilizer and it works well, based on my own testing. However, ethanol fuels are inherently corrosive and nothing can completely reverse this.

I would do a You Tube search for videos by 'Project Farm' and watch some of his ethanol stabilizer testing.

I turned 55 in November 2019. I am 6'-3" 215 pounds and I can still wear the pants I graduated high school in.

People often ask me for a 'secret.'

I still work outdoors at home and I do all our yardwork. I wash our cars and I do all repairs on our cars.

Food??? I eat two pieces of wheat toast every morning with a vegetable oil type spread. I drink 5-6 cups of black coffee every day. I seldom eat candy, but do drink one 32 ounce Barq's root beer every other day. I drink a lot of sweet tea at my Moms...My favorite mid-day snack is (one) 1/2 pound bean and cheese burrito for Del Taco with a side of jalapenos, extra cheese, onions and cilantro.

For dinner, I usually eat Triscuit crackers with Dubliner Irish Dry Cheese and about 6 ounces of raw ginger. This is my favorite evening meal. Sometimes, my wife will grille a T-bone and I do enjoy that periodically. Tortilla chips and salsa are an almost everyday treat for us.

I will drink a beer when it's hot, or during a party, but that's about it. The studio where I work buys us all lunch every Friday. That goes to a vote and it is usually Round Table Pizza, Yoshinoya or IN & Out Burger - and I would rather take a beating than eat IN & Out. It's nothing compared to Five Guys...

But I also ride a BMX bicycle as a training tool, so I am constantly using the BMX bike at the abandoned MX track (1.5 miles from my house) for jump training, because the mechanics of a jump on a bicycle, are the same as on a motorcycle, so it's a great training too.

I've only owned two cars with air conditioning in my entire life and I can take it or leave it. The heat doesn't bother me. I've never owned a car with an automatic transmission.

ironically, I am now looking at F-150's just to be able to transport my off-road only motorcycle to rides that are farther from home...

I have a pathological hatred of trucks and farm life in general...but, I am now to the point where I am going to have to buy one...

I have, but just want to stay with an engine and drivetrain that is similar to the Mustang, one that my tuner will work on, rear end gears and posi are the same, 4R70W transmission is the same as the one I just built in my son's Mercury Marquis, and I know this 4.6/5.4 3-valve Engine inside and out...

Thanks for all the cool info!

I've been using Lucas Oil 'Safeguard' (Ethanol fuel conditioner with stabilizers) as an additive to keep stored fuel fresh in a couple extra gas cans, and in the tank of my motorcycle. Lately I've been wondering if this type of additive was not designed to do what I expected it to do. What do you think?

I have a 2016 F-150 XLT in ruby red metallic. Supercrew, 4WD, 6.5' bed, V8/5.0L, 36 gallon fuel tank: Excellent vehicle with luxurious ride. The Ford Tow-Haul system works very well. Gas mileage sucks though: 12 city, 18 highway, 14.5 average.

Damn. I'm a desert dweller too and I can't go without my truck...lol I gotta have a truck. (Reformed Ford guy. I'm all Chevy now, but I have still owned more Fords than Chevys...:hide:)

Unfortunately, I also have the experience of many of my favorite places being fenced off, usually due to assholes trying to avoid the fee at the landfill and illegally dumping junk all over the countryside. I get it, because I hate to see that :poo: too, and in the end it just ruins it for everyone. Have been known to cut the fence between posts in areas clear off the trail (in such a way that it can be put back and nobody would ever know unless they looked at it very hard)

My bike is currently in a storage container with 7 other bikes that belong to a friend.....thinking it's about time to get it out and go do some riding. It's been far too long.

The guy on Project farm reported the ethanol stabilizer did help, but did not completely stop fuel deterioration...

I didn't start to race MX until I was 36-40. I liked riding, but my initial crashes left a few marks. No broken bones or deformities. The main reasons for layoff, and or numerous years between riding a dirtbike were mostly now due to low back issues and carpel tunnel. Nothing worse than riding and the throttle/front brake hand goes numb and makes it hard to keep both hands in control especially when jumping and or hitting rhythm sections. Sadly it has only gotten worse as I am 20+ years since first noticing it.

If I ever get health insurance, I may max out my warranty repairs within a few short weeks.

I will never haul anything in mine - i would never have too - i will use a hitch mount for the XR500R. Maybe carry a gas can...but i wouldn't routinely haul things...
