GFS Fat Pat. Any opinions?

Can't say enough about Guitar Madness for the value and service.
Sure I've gotten a couple duds, but I've bought at least 20 different pickups and sets from them.
And the duds still worked, I think they were just mismatched sets.
Most but not all of the offerings from GM are ceramic magnet, not a bad thing, just more of a "modern" tone than the smoothness of alnico 2 or the bright openness of alnico 5. Many are also listed as hot overwound. This may or may not be to one's liking, depending what's expected from the pickup.
I've also used GFS and Dragonfire and honestly I think they're all made by the same factory.
Guitar Madness just undercuts everybody's greed and offers great pricing and fast free shipping. Usually 3 days from Staten Island to Fla.

What would you compare the veh to, tone-wise?
Louder than vintage, so it's hard to find a comparison to a PAF type that everyone will be familiar with.
It's a bit more polite than the RioGrande BBQ, with a fairly similar frequency response in terms of B/M/T.
More raw and looser in the lows than a Duncan Perpetual Burn or the Anderson H2, both of which are fairly modern in personality.

I'm fond of running DiMarzio's The Breed neck in bridge position. The VEH hasn't got DiMarzio's trademark vowel-y mids but has a somewhat similar character overall.

That's about the best description of the veh that I have seen. I'm looking for something darker. Maybe not quite as dark as a tone zone, but in that neighborhood.

You might think about the Duncan Slash bridge; it's an overwound version of the Alnico Pro II. Still feels vintagey but much warmer than typical PAFs.

Take a look at The Breed bridge too; it was specifically designed to add body to thin sounding guitars. Seems like it shouldn't be as dark as the Tone Zone (can't say for sure because I never used a TZ) but it's fatter than your average humbucker. DiMarzio has stopped making these but there are eBay sellers that still have them in stock. For now.

If you're sticking with current GFS models I'd say the Fat Pat is probably going to be closest to what you want.

I most likely will stick with gfs. My viper has a kwickplug harness and I'm suffering from a lazy streak. Lol. Looks like the fat pat gets the nod.
