Restore this old radio or mod it into an amp ?

I'm in the "restore radio" camp because
(A) I like "properly" restored things from yesteryear.
(B) It's of very limited use as an amp, as has been pointed out with probably only the cab & chassis being of any use.
Either way, I'd like to see the finished product. Cheers
 
Mhmm, why not doing both: radio + amp? If it has a phono input, the only thing it would need to be a guitar amp is a possibility to use an external speaker.

Then: run on the external speaker: guitar amp. use the internal speaker: radio.

BTW: does this old baby have an autotransformer or a real one? In the 1st case my proposal would lead to danger

Cool ideas. There is no power transformer - it's a hot chassis design.

If I restored the radio I may use an isolation transformer, but I'd probably use a safety cap and phased two prong power chord - I'd be keeping it for myself and personally I'm not real concerned about it. Amp wise, being all the tube sockets are octal and still in great shape I'd probably go all octal including pre-amp tubes and do something like a push/pull 6v6 or maybe SE 6l6 or similar. Which means pretty much gutting it, getting a transformer set, tubes, etc. Speaker wise, it'd probably be a head - BUT, if I could find a little power house speaker I could cram into the cab - why not put one in it and add a speaker out jack that disconnects the internal speaker.

But, at the moment, I'm finishing up, or trying to finish up at least, a chassis for another one off amp I've been working with on and off for a while. I actually forgot about it. Last year at the end of November the wife had some dentist work done, which led to her throwing up from the anesthesia, which caused a cyst she didn't know she had to erupt, which led to the emergency room, which led to more doctor appointments (the fun, the fun) - and, well - just kind of getting back to stuff some what I guess.

Long story short the radio is going on the back burner until I get the other one off chassis I was working down - still gotta find a cab for the chassis, which is why I've been working it on and off - but, as the Ferengi said 'build the chassis and the cab will come...' ;)

Gotta get a couple new 9-pin shields. The old butt ones that are on it don't fit the newer socket well.

My dad told me about the old days when farmers would put some sort of raised/false floor in the bottom of the silage towers to catch what dripped out - at least I think that's pretty much what he said - been a while. My mom said that they use to just call them (her, etc) Pennsylvania ridge runners. It's been too many years since I've heard it and not like they talked about it much.
 
Getting closer... Knobs have to gas off a bit more before I can add decals to them. Slow, but surely...

Ended up using a 5y3 rectifier, 6v6 power tube, and a 6SL7 preamp tube. Went with the 6v6 as the power transformer seemed happiest with it temperature wise. The dial works in conjunction with the volume control. I've got it set up so if your on ten and need just a bit more - turn it to 11, but I'm not sure at the moment (other than a little sticker on the dial glass) how to mark 11 type thing. Anyways...
