What's happening to my nut?!

not really-- (at least to me) but then I have gutiars with 1/4 inch DIVITS hunked out of them -- and worse-- so what do I know--
this is the G3 Gibson Bass.....still plays and works just fine -----

Ive had wilshires and a SONEX 180 with a finish crack down both sides of the neck at the nut--- (and weird gouge where my CAT bit the neck) -- yes cat---
dont play no different.....
Lol well sure, I get that. My favorite V has a big ding right on the front side lol

I am particularly perturbed by the appearance of these finish fractures around jointed areas and things like this nut...

its just a "thing" Bubba... Gibson -- isnt infalable-- and wood shrinks and grows.....and cracks-- and loses chunks ---
use a small razor "nick the finish at the nut so you dont pull more off-- remove it (the nut not the finish) -- clean it -- replace it -- life goes on---

but if the headstock falls off really send it all to me Ill deal with it ;)

Of all the guitars I have, I've never seen that.

Out of all the guitars I have, this Explorer is the only one with a nitro finish.

It doesn't seem to affect playability, and the nut isn't wiggling all over the place or anything...so maybe I just keep an eye on it for a bit and see if it gets worse or not. Chalk it up to "battle scars" I guess.

This guitar hasn't left the jam room in several months....I would think that drastic and immediate changes in temp/humidity would do something like this....but I don't think it's seen anything too crazy for some time...is it common to see finish fractures around nuts like this?
My nuts have been fairly trouble free over the years...
I’ve only had trouble once...patched it up, and went on with life.
Most of my Gibsons are not finished like yours.
I do have a single black one like yours though.
I’ll pop down and check my nuts for damage in a bit....I’ll let you know what I find.

OK guys....have at it....

PICS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahahahaha! Since you asked so nicely
This is my Black SG....

...looks like they were a little human when they were scraping the binding. Let’s not forget that’s how it’s still done....you can see it really good because I’ve been shaking any available dust out of the ceiling with the Mesa...so yeah, I need to clean it.
