I read several guitar and amp/gear related forums and have come to the conclusion that somehow I am an exception, or an “odd man” out when it comes to effects pedals. I mean that I read of the many pedal aficionados who have multiple drive pedals and I don’t have any. It's for a simple reason. I love the gain and OD and grit my Orange Terror 15 watt amp puts out.

Please! If there are amp owners here that feel the same as I do for what their amp can do by itself, speak up! It's not that I have some aversion to pedals per say, because I do employ in my amp's effects loop a delay and, at times, a reverb pedal.

Your not alone--
I own 4 pedals -- they sit on the book shelf beside my amps--
99% of my playing is a 3 part affair--
1 guitar (or bass)
1 cord
1 amp

done

every now and then I will hook up a nano fuzz to the Mesa-- for a little "hair" on my blues--at bedroom levels--

the PEavey 112 bandit has more knobs than Carter has Liver Pills-- 3 gain levels "gain" "gain 2" and "thrash" in it plus pre and post knobs-- 3 band EQ for each channel--2 overall channels -- and spring reverb --
plus "presence"-- and a transtube knob-- it will do cleans-- to more gain than you can possibly ever need---(I mean STUPID levels of gain)

THe Marshall has gain out the ying yang-- and lovely cleans with again a real spring reverb tank--

The Lil Sexy is Tone and Volume -- 5 watts of boutique hand made tube power-- the pedals are mostly to give it -- grit-- or reverb ....

Bass amp --- I run clean --tried compression-- was just more knobs to distract me from playing --

there ya go-- see you aint alone .....

TBF I have been down the pedal Rabbit hole -- and the MODELING AMP rabbit hole--

It just distracted me and sucked up ($$$) and the time I actually have to PLAY twittling knobs and chasing a tone --
perhaps I give up to easy?
or am lazy.......
or maybe I am just happy with the sounds these few amp toys make .............
 
I use more pedals with my acoustic than with electric. For live use with the acoustic I use a tuner, DI, chorus, and reverb. With electric live it’s straight into the amp with the amp footswitch to switch between channels. At home I sometimes use a drive pedal with the electrics because I can’t turn it loud enough to push the power tubes. That’s rare though because at home I mostly use a 1 watt Blackstar with headphones where I can push the power tube hard.

I feel much the same way you do. I will use a Tubescreamer to add a bit of grit to the clean channel of my amp, but when it comes to having real overdrive, I'd rather that be created by the amp, itself. I don't use an actual distortion pedal.

This is why I prefer two-channel amps.

My only amp, and one I saved up for, and actually took a chance on a new brand to me, has proved a worthy buy. It has the 4 gain stages which I only manage to get into the 2nd. to bring out the amp tone. I have bonded with the amp's griitty tone and adapted to what the gain has to offer. I just can't see altering it or enhancing it with a device where the signal may be passing trough a chip or chips before it reaches the speaker and my ears. I do understand the where, when and why amp owners use pedals to go after a particular desired tone, but as a strictly home player and being somewhat retro-minded, I'd rather use
the design of the amp at hand to fashion my own take on gainy tones.

I only have a MojoMojo on my pedal board and almost never use it. In fact, it is the least used pedal I have. Really like the sounds I can get with my guitars and amps themselves. I certainly do use delay, chorus, reverb, eq and flanger pedals, but they are job specific.
 
I hate pedals. I was strictly straight in player for so long, most of my pedals are in someone else's rig now. Occasionally would use a tubescreamer.

Except for one. I came into possession of a Friedman BE-OD, and it's now a permanent thing. Using it was almost like getting a new amp.

But I don't have a pedal board or anything like that. I don't particularly want one either.

For me, it depends on the amp in use, and the task at hand. Much like @BFT Gibson mentioned, if it’s a fairly clean amp...I’ll be using some kind of distortion or OD to get it where I want.
If I’m gigging with a good, single channel, filth type of amp(like a Tiny Terror) and I need a cleanish sound...then I feel like I have to set the amp to a mild break up, resort to pedals for the full filth, and depend on the guitar volume knob for full(enough) clean up.

...and then there’s the occasional desire for some fuzz...like most amps don‘t do...thick and chewy...

So yeah.....sometimes pedals get involved...especially live. But maybe not so much with a channel switching amp, like a Dual Rec, my Phaez, or my old Laney AOR. Those have some good cleans on tap, and some pretty gnarly dirt too.
 
I will say this --

As a total talent-less hack and a HOME NOODLER -- for fun and relaxation-- the pedals and models et all just ad comp-lication and distraction-- I can see however a need for these items especially for a gig guy who NEEDs 1 (or 2) guitars to be able to sound LIKE -- ANgus young and Richie Blackmor AND Tommy Shaw--- ANd Tom PEtty and....and 10 other musicians --- in an hour
Or someone recording say an ORIGINAL song and wanting a particular -- different-- original tone ---then by all means ---pedal on!!!
