Speaker question

I wouldn't use nail polish on the rubber contour. You need something that will flex. Nail polish when dry is like epoxy, glass. It will surely crack.

If the tear is on the paper cone sure, but I wouldn't apply any on the rubber.
 
Well, it's been a minute.

I got the speaker repaired (to my satisfaction) using the rubber 'coating'.
Left it sitting for a week, then hot wired it to the Vjr.
After a fair amount of 'thumping', seems to be holding pretty good. Now mind you, the thumping was done at a volume that exceeds my typical playing level for this amp.
Then, satisfied that the repair was good, I started on a cab for it.
I wanted something other than your standard 'box, that sits on the floor, projecting sound across your toes.
I thought, "I can build a box, & get a tilt back stand for it".
Then I thought "I can build a box that IS a tilt back stand".

VOILA'

OK, so now the sound projects across your knees:BH:
But, I rarely play standing up anymore, so this is just about the perfect angle for me.
I still got a few things to do yet, but I'm happy so far.
 
I'm thinking of simi closed.
A 3in strip across the top, & bottom, & mount the jack on the bottom strip.
 
I know you've already fixed the tear, but in future, may I suggest some of that Micropore paper medical tape that medicos use to tape bandages or gauze to your skin.
I've used it on a torn subwoofer cone in my 5.1 surround sound speakers and it is still going strong after nearly 3 years.

You can buy it in varying widths from 1/8" to about 3", and it's really cheap. A roll of 1/2" is about 100yds long, and you can get it for less than a dollar online.

Opted for just the strip on top back.
Haven't decided on stain, or paint.
Probably a light stain, & wipe on poly, so no disassembly.
All done for now, & it's sounding pretty sweet with the Vjr.
 
I was looking for a solution to protect the speaker cones. Yours is good. I thought about that wire mesh, but not to the inside of the cab.
 
Cut to fit the speaker, & 'pinched' in place by the cork surround.
The bolts run thru the mesh, & it was a bit of a pita to get it to lay flat/still while getting the spkr in place.
