Mark 5:25 Combo

This is probably a heretical question ... but how are the cleans on either one?

Mark 5 will do gorgeous cleans in the Blackface style on the green channel clean mode, the little switch top left here:

Fat mode in the middle on the green channel is basically Mark I clean, so a bolder clean tone that breaks up earlier. This mode really takes pedals well.

Crunch mode is the bottom of the three modes on that channel and it does anything from Vox-style aggressive breakup to taking your Marshall's job away - the mid control is a post-gain boost after 12:00 and it will rival the Mk11C+ mode for the amount of grit on tap if you push it, but with a very different EQ and feel. This mode caused me to send the Marshall Mini Jubilee I bought back because it was more Marshall than the Marshall.

The one downside to the 25 is that the reverb is not foot-switchable. It is on the 35.

I have the Mini Rec. and I can get really nice cleans on the Green Channel.
You HAVE to read the owners manual though. The tone stack does not work like the normal run of the mill tone controls.
I love my Mini Rec. For me playing at home its great. If I did go out it would handle most situations.

That’s cool. Mini-Rec heads are pretty reasonably-priced on the used market, right now.

I've been wanting a Mesa real bad since the 80s. I'm currently trying to make room for one by having listed my Rivera Quiana 4x10 on the local Craigslist classifieds for about two months now. No one has expressed any interest so far. Selling this beast is probably going to take a long time.

But meanwhile, I can keep on dreaming, right? Without ever trying any Mesas, right now I'm leaning towards a Mark 5-35 or the Triple Crown 50... :fingersx:

Sad, isn't it? I've been a big fan of Rivera's and have owned a bunch, and they are always hard to move when the time comes. They should be a lot more popular than they are - not cheap but worth the money for sure.

I have never had the chance to play through one, I have six items on my local CL and nothing is biting!!

Great amps. Good, honest Marshall-meets-Fender kind of setups that do just about everything, extraordinarily well made.
Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup!

The Quiana 4x10 really IS a beast! Most of ya'll are probably familiar with the looks and size of a Fender Super Reverb, which weighs about 60 lbs. The Quiana (4x10) is about 2" taller, 1" wider, 1 1/2" deeper, and 25 lbs heavier!

That such a smart-looking little amp head!

Adding the graphic EQ is just a smart idea, too.

It's an ubeatable package IMO. The layout is just about perfect, and its very small and very light. The EQ is footswitchable for both channels. Another nice thing is you can use the CabClone to defeat the speaker out and just play through headphones if you want, it's not just for recording.

What I have been doing the last couple weeks is using an A/B/Y box with the Mark and my Princeton...obviously using the Princeton for clean sounds, then the Crunch mode of the Mark for mid gain and either the Mk IIC+ or Mk IV modes (depending on guitar) for high gain.

While the clean channel of the Mark is great for those Fendery sounds, the Crunch mode is just too good to give up: I use that mode probably 75% of the time when I play.

Mesa Boogie threads should be banned because sooner or later they are gonna cost me a lot of money!

I must have put one in my basket half a dozen times over the last few years due to you lot (often Gballs fault...). Ideally, I'd just want a tiny as possible head so this one is looking good to me:

(I don't like the price though...)

Then, a bit of reverb is nice, but this one is just that bit bigger which I don't want (but I kinda want):

&, of course I want the classic rock, lightly overdriven bluesy sound, so Gball is saying this is the goto:

It's got a lot going for it, but it's bigger than I want. I wonder how it compares in size to the 1w Marshall DSL head? ($1000 more expensive of course...).

&, once in Thailand when I was considering buying a tele, the guy had this amp to play through:

It sounded amazing. But, I don't want a big heavy monster (I'm always thinking about heading back to the UK or another country, and there's no way I'd wanna sell the MB, so something that'll fit in my luggage is what I need).

Yeah, thanks a lot Gball...

Just checked, the Marshall 1w DSL head is the same size as the Mark Five:25 head (& the rectoverb 25 head is a bit larger and heavier than both); the mini rec is quite a bit smaller than all of them and the same weight as the Marshall. Hmmm...

Mr Grumpy has got GAS again... :run::run::run:

… SO DOES SYSCOKID!

I've made a rule for meself: develop a certain skill level on the guitar before buying a new expensive amp, so I'm practicing...

You, on the otherhand, Sysco, are a fine player, so give your credit card company a call and head down to the Mesa Boogie showroom! :D
(I suspect my credit card company would laugh at me if I ask for anymore money...)

I had the same issue with my Peavey 4x10 for local pickup. I got offers to buy and ship, but that is a rather "heavy" undertaking.

I too have wanted a Mesa for a long time. Maybe soon!

I have a MKII C+, a MK3 and a MKIV, and I think I have enough of what I sonically need. Though I only go out with JMI AC10's, AC15'S and AC30's, I always had a Mesa Boogie on stage and ready in case the old Beatle Bashers gave up the ghost, … only had to switch the jack. Sometimes I switched among them based on how I felt at the time. Tweeds and Marshall Plexi's were another " Ball Game " … but jees a lot of fun too!

You've had some great amps; I'd love to have them and the talent to blast out to a crowd - superb effort, Sir!

You have talent your not even aware of yet, you just have to gentlely coax it to the surface, try it and it will come slowly though. The reason I still play is because every time I pick up a guitar I learn something new. With the amps , well, the price I paid for them was old age! I've been doing the guitar thing since about 12 hence I lived thru all the trials and tribulations, and being a packrat I never sold anything except to take the next step back in lineage …. it's a long story but there ment to be played and anyone close can play them. I leave them in the amp room, turn all on and go mow the lawn so they feel comfortable. And if there trustworthy the inner sanctum. The Boogies all have the graphic EQ and with that there's a lot of different sounds that can be produced
