NGD!!!...piece by piece....by piece!

Really excellent build quality and attention to detail. How's the tone??? White noise??? Do you feel like the shielding was worth the effort???

I've actually abandoned my 2016 Gibson SG project because I just grew weary of constantly having to spend more and more on it and never really getting anywhere....

Thanks. I really enjoy the tone. It's got a nice warm but clean sound. I still need to adjust pickup height though. I set it where I thought, and now need to make some changes. I think the neck is way too low.

The shielding was so worth it. It's the only guitar I have, that hummed. Now, dead quiet. I can't know if I didn't need to do as much as I did, but it's quiet now, so glad I did.

I wired it a total of three times. The first time I did such neat work, but by the third I was dropping bombs. Glad the shielding worked, because I was at the end of my strength.

Sorry to hear about the white flag going up over the SG....I know how much energy you've spent on getting it to your liking.

That's really great news!!!!

It's so good to see fruits of your labor once in a while...

It's funny, I still have that nasty hum/buzz to isolate/repair in my old Stratocaster too.

Pickups...

I been setting my humbuckers at 1/8" between pole piece and underside of string when fretted at the 21st.

Im a tad deeper than that. Actually, I'm still not set with my bridge set up either.....it's very close, but still needs to come down. Once I get that where I want it, I'll get the pickup in order. I've been playing it constantly, so I can get a feel for the guitar. That's how I roll.

A Gibson case would be cool, but at the end of the day a case is a case. As long as the guitar fits correctly (most important to me) and it is made well, that's pretty much all that matters. My favorite all time gig bags were the Tweed style gig bags sold by MusiciansFriend years ago for about 30 bucks to the door, if not 20 bucks on sale. Very high quality, very thick, multiple colors, and they had them for electric guitars, acoustic guitars, and bass's. To bad they stopped selling them. The only one I have left is one for acoustics.

You did a good job of putting it all together. The guitar looks gorgeous with the zebra pickups and the sunburst on the body. You take more pride in a guitar you've assembled yourself. It gives you a sense of accomplishment. Now play that Paul and crank the volume to 11.;)

I'll insert an opinion that the best case for a gigging musician is the SKB...
For a Les Paul guitar it's the SKB-56. These are pricey but excellent.
For an SG it's the SKB-61. Watch for these to go onsale if you want a new one.
Otherwise, check eBay and Amazon for the best prices. New, the list price is near $150.
I have been able to score two of these when the went onsale at M/F for like $89.
That's the best price I've seen.

I began when I bought my used Telecaster deluxe replica... the sales guy showed me a number
of cases that would fit the Tele, but I went for the SKB case that fits the tele...

After using it for a few years, I noticed that the darn case is nearly impervious to anything but a
bullet, or a blow from an axe. Not only that, but it doesn't damage other (lesser) cases when stacked
with them in the back of a van. Hard to beat... it does no harm and it takes none.

If you're not driving to dodgy areas, playing dicey gigs for what ever they pay you, then you can get
by with something else. But if you are, use the SKB... I believe that it can even go on an airplane without
harm. They have TSA approved latches anyway, and seem very tough.

Nice case....I went with a Gator for $129.00 because it had such a great fit around the SG....IMG_20170218_55235.jpg

That's a guitar that I have set up, exactly as I like it. Still working on the LP though....got some fine tuning to do.

It's funny in a way....the pickups look like there is a HUGE difference in height, but when you measure the distance from pole piece to string, it's closer than you think.

I set pickup height with a VU meter...
