AMP SAFETY - Please read!

Well,Im getting a 28' uhaul, 4 young dudes and moving all musical stuff off the beach. Theres a king tide happening right when the storm hits , we are 3 feet above sea level , Cat4 winds ="s washout of beach facing Atlantic Ocean. If the house don't flood good , if it does most valueable items saved! Not posted to get sympathy but just to inform!
Stay safe Vox

Got the truck, the ramp fits right over the front door threshold! I'm goin to Suntree to park the truck as it's gated …. but I want to take the 40 gts out and put the guitars inside at the house were staying at. The girl that lives there by herself was estatic as she had to stay by herself …. generator and gas w/ 10 days of good eating and of course enough beer to kill an elephant, or three, oh, and my gas grill w be going too ! The whole shebang less than 500 bucks and I got it for 10 daze ….. cheaper if less. How's that for motivation? And the girl is a looker too

but I have a chaperon , my wife!!!! Thank God!

What's the address, Voxy? Will she let us jam? I could book a flight and be the only crazy guy flying INTO Florida with a Hurricane impending.

Best of luck beating the storm.

CYA later, I'm going to Suntree, off the beach side n just outside flood zones. but the dumb broad who lives there didn't know to board up! Another improvise and adapt thingy. If that doesn't work I head west to Orlando , one hour, get on I4 West, 1 1/2 hrs, and go to this Clearwater farm house witch is on 3 acres w/ a lake ! I have a small arsenal with me all loaded with one in the pipe, safety on, and I do know I won't need them but just in case having an option I would otherwise not have make me calm'r, defense only! Right now it's a bright sunny summer day, little breeze, and humid. It's just hard to believe that could change soon! Spoke to PD and they seem to have everything worked out very logically, and checked with them about the firearms, they said I'm cool, so no worries!
Peace out Bro's the puter's going down now!
Kind Regards to all

Everything is OK … the truck was loaded and ready to go. But I wasted to wait till the last second as in an hour I'd be in Orlando and 2 hrs later Clearwater! The storm stalled a day, one mile per hour then the eye moved 75 mi east of the beach, just got thru it as the eye has just passed, lost no utilities nada. After I locked up the 28' Uhaul my legs and worn out knees gave out. But I dodged a bullet

Now this is a good question. To answer it, well, it's highly unlikely, but (there's always a "but"), if your finger tips were to come into contact with the valve's "pins" while they were still partially inserted into the socket, then possibly, yes, as certain valve pins are connected to those nasty electrolytic "filter" caps. So just avoid touching the valve pins while removing the valve from the socket, or inserting a valve into the socket & you'll be fine. Cheers

I'm kinda intimidated by anything other than a speaker swap or tube swap, but I really would like to learn how to do major amp repairs.

Get a kit from a reputable supplier, Robert.
A Champ kit is a great way to learn how things work.
I've built an 18 watt Marshall clone and a Princeton Reverb clone and lived to tell about it.
Both very enjoyable experiences.

One cautionary thing that I haven't seen mentioned is soldering barefoot.
Not only is molten solder hot when it hits skin, but bare feet on tile seem to be a pretty good path to ground.
I can attest to this personally as a soldering iron I was using had cracks in the insulation in the power wire.
I received several nice tingles that made me grab some shoes & buy a new soldering iron.

Amps are indeed fun, but working on electric forklifts will really get your attention.
A 36 volt SCR system has enough amperage to blow a screwdriver apart.
And when something arcs, boy is it a pretty light show.

Be safe people, you only get to die once.

I worked on Tesla's briefly. 480VDC is no joke.

As careful as I try to be when tinkering with an amp, I still manage to shock myself at least once for almost every amp I open up. What saves my asss, uhm actually my heart, is keeping only one hand in contact and probing on a live amp.

My wife can usually determine how much voltage I just got zapped with by how loud my "Woo Hoo's" are... o_O
