Losing the best neighbors I could have imagined having. They’re packing up the last of things this weekend, and prepping for closing on Wednesday. I miss them already, as they had relocated to North Carolina...like since mid July. He brewed the beer, I cooked the BBQ...we enjoyed our little patch of New England swamp...for the last 12 years.
They have a good gig going down there though...an offer that was too good to refuse, and I’m happy for them.
So anyway...I was helping them with the last of the things buried in their basement. The wife lifts a blanket from a pallet of what looks like some random cardboard boxes, and called for me...
She asked if I wanted this...

An old Motorola HiFi record player....hmmmmmm......sure thing!
I told her that if I can’t fix it up as a record player, I would make a very cool guitar amp out of it for sure.
Honestly, I haven’t even begun to look inside to assess the situation yet, but I can see a very large transformer, and a few tubes, through the back panel holes(it’s one of those Swiss cheese, vented panel deals). Can’t tell if it’s got a Jensen 12 inch in it yet...there’s a blanket tacked around the speakers in a weird fashion...shrug. It could be a fun project anyway...I hope.
These either came as a mono amp unit, or a stereo amp unit...the stereo amp ran 2 pairs of EL84 tubes, and I have found a bit of info on them. The mono unit, on the other hand, I haven’t found much on...it might run a single 6V6 in the power section, pretty sure this is the older mono unit...maybe 1957-ish. I guess I’ll find out when I get the ambition to dig through the dust and cobwebs.
