So Anyway...

Losing the best neighbors I could have imagined having. They’re packing up the last of things this weekend, and prepping for closing on Wednesday. I miss them already, as they had relocated to North Carolina...like since mid July. He brewed the beer, I cooked the BBQ...we enjoyed our little patch of New England swamp...for the last 12 years. :(
They have a good gig going down there though...an offer that was too good to refuse, and I’m happy for them.
So anyway...I was helping them with the last of the things buried in their basement. The wife lifts a blanket from a pallet of what looks like some random cardboard boxes, and called for me...
She asked if I wanted this...

An old Motorola HiFi record player....hmmmmmm......sure thing!
I told her that if I can’t fix it up as a record player, I would make a very cool guitar amp out of it for sure.
Honestly, I haven’t even begun to look inside to assess the situation yet, but I can see a very large transformer, and a few tubes, through the back panel holes(it’s one of those Swiss cheese, vented panel deals). Can’t tell if it’s got a Jensen 12 inch in it yet...there’s a blanket tacked around the speakers in a weird fashion...shrug. It could be a fun project anyway...I hope.
These either came as a mono amp unit, or a stereo amp unit...the stereo amp ran 2 pairs of EL84 tubes, and I have found a bit of info on them. The mono unit, on the other hand, I haven’t found much on...it might run a single 6V6 in the power section, pretty sure this is the older mono unit...maybe 1957-ish. I guess I’ll find out when I get the ambition to dig through the dust and cobwebs.:)

I am not sure what kind of record player it would be, but that would make a killer amp cabinet!! You could even leave the turntable. Nice gift. I am sure they will be missed. Who did they sell to?

I do agree that it would make a killer amp cabinet! I can imagine rearranging my living room set up to accommodate it, as it is in pretty good shape overall, and should clean up nicely. She seems to remember that someone speculated that it had blown a speaker...I wonder which one though...or if it could be something else altogether. I’m very thankful...for this...and all the time I’ve enjoyed with them.
They have sold to a younger, unmarried, couple...Late 20s to early 30s.
Looks like I may meet them fairly soon...rehearsal is supposed to be Thursday night(we shall see how that goes)...probably by next weekend.

The Calvin story really broke me up; so touching and magical.

So, anyway
We did Chris Stapleton concert Fri. evening.
Smallish venue, had a great time.
Sound was very good for Stapleton.

The two opening acts were very good too;
Margo Price, and Markus King Band, neither of which I had heard of.
Price's band sounded great with a killer Tele player.

Markus has some real chops too, but the mix was too loud and harsh sounding at times.

They sang a song together - Friendship, I think.
