Gibson Explorer and Age Question

Delusional Old Farts... yeah man, I played with those dudes...

...and one more toad to toss in the cauldron:

If you play well, you can play any damn guitar and you'll sound like yourself. ...which, if you play well, is a good thing.
So if you're old and you play an Explorer, or a B.C. Rich War Beast... the casual observer's first impression might be derisive,
but then they stop and say, 'yeah, but the guy can play, can't he..." And that, my friend, is what you want.

It's our job as performers to give the audience something to care about. Assume that they don't give two hoots...
and go after them to change that. If you succeed, your music succeeds. The instruments we choose are to assist us
toward that end. To give the audience something to remember. So if the Explorer gives the audience a jolt, and you've got
the chops to back that up, then you're on your way.

That's what I meant when I said that if the guitar makes you want to live up to its image, you can utilize that.
Harness that and put it to work. For me, the SG has this effect. And it's given me something fine in my sixties. I bought my
first SG as a gift to myself for making 60. I felt the clammy hand of my own mortality, and hoped that an SG might be a
bright flame to drive dark shadows away. And it was, and it still is. May you have this joy.

So tell me... (you should know). Do they make an Explorer as a Gold Top?

Then there's the opposite.
I show up with a sunburst 335.
"Look at the little old guy with the big hollow body guitar."
Then I hit that first big chord....
SURPRISE!!!
:)

I'm a big fan of the 500T and 496R that comes standard in the new Explorers. It will be a raunchy rock machine. 1 meg volume pots will really push it over the top.

Life's too short to worry about what folks think of you. Get what YOU want while there's still time to enjoy it.

... does the Explorer, with its highly groovy styling, look silly on us older gents that are not famous musicians?
Not at all. Gibson's Explorer is definitely a radical looking guitar. Too radical for acceptance in 1958 for sure. But like the SG, it's a design that has aged gracefully and still relevant to this day. I'm sure you will look good with one. I hope you get one. You want one... Do it... :dood:
