I was never a good player and I go for months at a time without playing, losing what little I gained after years of trying. I was a great POS guitar collector, but this too has come to an end. I own only 8 guitars now and most of them are living with Spectre at his work. Tony and Chris, step aside and acknowledge my rightful throne for King of the Worst!

Well, up until this past Saturday, I haven't had a real 'signature tone' other than some of the many recordings that I have posted on Sound Cloud. However, the recent addition of the TS-9, CE-5 and the incredible 12AU7/ECC83S/ECC83MG/5751 tube combination in my DSL40C has totally transformed that amp into a terrorizing beast.

Hopefully, we can record some sound clips of the setup this coming Saturday. I don't know how we can keep any type of recording device from bursting into flames trying to capture that tone.

Until then, I will leave you with this clip of a studio project we recorded 6 months ago. I was very happy with the tone we got on this. The song is a cover of Ghost's 'Rats!' and it is a full studio production, complete with control board volume drops, second guitar parts and console effects added.

This was recorded on my bone-stock 2016 Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute through my Blackstar ID-Core 100 Watt 2X10" Combo, direct out into the console. The amp was set with gain at around 3/4 and all EQ's at 12 Noon. The engineer added affects and EQ as he saw fit.

Tight as a drum, as usual Robert!

Now you're just talking nonsense...you getting to close to the SoCal tokers?

Well...as a musician, I have to be able to comment objectively on anything that takes place in the studio work environment because i am paid to do so.

But as a listener, I'm not bound by such considerations or restraints and I am allowed to interject opinions.

If a song doesn't grab me in the first 10 seconds or so, I will never listen to it. There are songs that many refer to as "classics" from 30 years ago, that I still change channels to avoid hearing after 30 years of being uninspired by them.

Now, for a 25.5" instrument with single coils, Axel Rudi Pell's tone is searing and hits like a sledgehammer...something I need to hear if a given song is to engage me.

No tokers in this lineup...
