No joke, I might consider that if it was a bit more even. As it stands, and I can't believe myself, I am back to thinking about that Silver Jubilee and I think I may not have given it enough time. Mucking around with it, I realize I plugged it in and dialed in one gritty tone with one guitar and decided too quickly that it didn't do anything I didn't already have, so I send it back almost immediately. I think I was in a weird headspace about it too because the first one was damaged in shipping and it was an ordeal to finally get the thing, plus at the time we were about to go out of town and I was rushing. Well, anyway, I fooled around with one again at the shop and found some tones that really got me to thinking I may have made a mistake not keeping it so now my thoughts turn to maybe selling the Mini and re-buying the Jubilee. I am an idiot.
 
well-- now -- lets not do anything DRASTIC just yet----- I mean -- I could "sweeten the pot" ------------ muwahahahahhahhahah ;)

The Mini-Rec has a truly great clean channel, like a perfect pedal platform channel, and then it has it's ripping/tearing drive channel, but it's not as nuanced, touch sensitive or versatile as the Mk 5. The Mark can easily do 90% of anything the Mini can, but the Mini can't really touch the quality of the tones coming out of the Mk. 5. Not close. Then factor in the 6 modes and the EQ and the built-in CabClone and it's just no contest.

It may not be fair since the Mk 5 costs 50% more than the Mini, but it renders the Mini superfluous. I got the Mini initially because it's a sturdy, portable little package in a nice carry bag, so it's perfect as a solution when you need to be mobile. But since the band went on hiatus, I just don't have any real need for it.

One last thing - the Mk 5 sounds incredible at any volume, even down at conversation volume. The Mini needs to be wound up quite a bit to sound its best. When you get there, it's a killer, classic hard rock/metal tone (it is basically an SLO after all) but it's pretty damn loud at that point. At lower volumes it seems to be at its best only with an OD in front of it, and the Mk doesn't need anything to sound monstrous at lower volumes.

well Im out-- short of my MESA-- or my home built cabinet PEAVEY 112 Bandit---I gots nothing "gig worthy" for live venues type thing
 
20-25 watts is the sweet spot for me. The Mesas switch down to 10 watts but it's too mushy for high gain, so I always run them at 25, even at low volume. I have a variety of cabs so I can choose the right one for the right use.

And I do need master volume/channel switching amps for what I use them for. I get virtually all of my distortion from the gain channel of the amp and only use an OD in front of the amp when I need just a little pop for solos. When I use a fuzz it's into the clean channel, and I need to be able to switch back and forth. I've tried and struggled too many times to make other configurations work and they just don't for me, so everything now has to have enough gain available to gig without a pedalboard or its a no-go for me.
