Gibson Changing It's Pickups???

sounds like the Duncan Antiquities un potted Humbucker with 8.4K ohms.there not cheap but they sound glorious :) 20170102_123943.jpeg this is whats in here and its the best ive had in it yet.ive never owned a real T-Top to be fair

Yes, Gibson like Stonehenge, have to remember that one, cool. So I just Wikipedia'd the mini hums, pretty vague but they are an Epiphone invention, Gibson has been using on some guitars since the 50's. These had a bar magnet, some with rails, some with adjustable pole pieces. The firebird got a "revised" minihumbucker with the magnet being the rails. Cheers

Yeah. Sometimes, I think I should write a synopsis of Gibson mini-humbuckers. These seem to be Gibson's most misunderstood p'up.

Update:

The "Revised Specification" 490's have a generous application of wax...and it's a very tough wax indeed..not easily scraped away. The baseplate is also embossed "Gibson" and the wind dates, 11/08/2016 (490R) and 11/09/2016 (490T) are clearly visible. The pickups came with a complete Les Paul circuit board, selector switch, input jack/plate and and Gold Top Hats with pointers. The 490's have the 5 pin quick connect harness, so they will literally drop into my 2016 SG.

My stock 2016 SG open-bobbin 490's (shown below with a photo of the guitar on the builder's bench) are NOT wax potted, which is exactly what Nicolas Chemsak at Gibson told me with regard to the "Traditional" series instruments....

Should be good for use at volume now Robert. With these in & the shielding done hopefully your problems are over & you can enjoy it. Cheers

Cool. So traditionals now have unpotted pickups? Glad my 2012 LP traditional's were potted. What are you doing with the unpotted 490s Robert? Maybe good candidates for the short A5 magnet swap (& potting of course). Cheers

Not sure....they do sound good at lower volumes....might be goid pickups for somebody....

The "Pre-Revision" 490's out of my 2016 Gibson SG. The 05/26/2016 wind date confirms they are built prior to September 1, 2016....IMG_20170122_55553.jpg
