Waiting for me today, as I arrived home from work, was a really well packed box. Inside, was a Phaez Duophonic. It’s a two channel beast, pushing out 22 watts via two 6V6 tubes. One channel is a fairly clean, Blackface-ish thing, called a Corona. The second channel is fairly high gain, lots of usable gain, called a Daisycutter. It has an effects loop. It’s actually foot-switchable. It even has a head cab. Although purple is not my first choice, I still have some black vinyl dye and I know how to use it.(this guy sells a lot of bare chassis amps for fairly short money). He even threw a simple foot switch in the box(it didn’t say that one was included, so I was pleasantly surprised).
I’m just getting acquainted right now. :dood:

I want to thank @alligatorbling for re-kindling my interest in these amps.

First impression, from running it through a 2x12(pictured), loaded with some old WGS Reapers(one regular, the other a 55Hz version)...Crisp! Responsive! Solid! LOUD!
The clean channel takes pedals like a champ. Muff, and clean boost sound great. Delay, reverb, and my Shaky Jimi sound great in the loop.
Next session will be through the usual Marshall 1960 straight cab...then maybe over to the Recto cab...then.....
Now I have to get back to running this thing through, probably, every cab I own...
This could take a while.

from the REPUBLIC of Canuckistan you say?

He’s been building variants of these(and others) for around a decade. I came close to popping for one back when he was starting out, but decided to build my 18 watt instead.

His website is...flakey... Phaez Amps
He has a bunch of stuff “in stock” at any given time, but he will build by request too.
I saw this one, and couldn’t resist...channel switching is something he does as an add on, but this one was done already, and it had the two channels that I wanted. Plus...this is my first 6V6 amp.:dood:

Because it has two channels, or is there something special about the channels themselves?
There is something “special” about the two channels, I guess would be the proper response for me.
The Daisycutter channel was one of his early preamp/tone stacks that was popularized by its hot gain, Marshallesque, vibe. He used to do a lot of straight up Daisycutter heads.
Now with the Duophonic heads, he pairs up different channels with each other.
I’ve been curious about the Corona channel too...was hoping it would be reminiscent of my Silkyn in its abilities to take pedals. If the latest session through the Marshall 1960 straight cab is any indication, the answer is a resounding YES!
I was running through some Sabath standards with my SG P90 Standard, and when I engaged the Corona channel, and the Muff-brew...it was fantastic!
Drop C sharp, with the Gladiator (LP style), 57/57+, through the Daisycutter channel; I got a great sound for some Counterparts era Rush “Stick it Out”...maybe a little more energetic/gainy sounding, but the tone from the amp/guitar made me want to play that...excellent note clarity, good eq controls there.

Overall, through the 1960 straight cab....BEEFY.

the three guitars played for variety:

The P90s were my favorite!(go figure)

I was gonna post a link in your $500 head thread, but I didn’t have any “hands on” experience with them. I know I’m still honeymooning, but so far so good!
He sells amps without tubes, and head cabs, fairly cheap, so...yeah $388 US—-you buy the tubes, and come up with a box(if you want). Fooker.:celebrate2:

Nice!! Purple is always one of my top choices!!! It looks super interesting. How much headroom do you have on the clean channel ? My Ceriatone will have 6V6s and I have no prior experience with them.

FYI - check the tubes. I heard 6V6HD are just poopy 6L6 so try to avoid those

Wow, $ 388 is a great deal. Gut shot maybe?

I guess you picked your own tubes then, and I am sure you chose wisely

Headroom— almost too much on the clean channel...I’m not complaining.
Checking, and seating the tubes is on the list for tomorrow evening.

Gut shots are on the site for each amp. He builds point to point...looks sloppy...seems to work well.

I did not pick tubes. I will shop for some soon. My head came loaded.

Man I see one of those in my near future! RVA he has some gut shots on his page in some of the amps pics. Screw spending $500 for a non hand wired amp!!

That’s what I was thinking...I took a gamble...I’ll see how it shakes out.
Mine was reasonably priced in my opinion. As I said above, the foot switch was a pleasant surprise.

Yes his prices seem really fair to me and you can option it up or down to fit a budget. I just want a good single ended Marshall flavor, DSL50 Green Channel in a box but a hot rodded Jub is just as good in my book...lol
