Hot Rodding a DSL40C???

Son of a bitch., LOL NOW that you guys have me scouring the web for amps I have heard a broad spectrum or gain vs clean vs modern vs vintage, boutique vs budget sweat shop labor assembled ones. I know I have plenty of amps for my playing, but damn I now have amp gas.
Robert was asking about JCM 800 combos, well, here's Johan

I need a lot of gain in this project. I'm running gain on the VS265 at a little past 12 noon and with the Genelex Gold Lion T12AX7, it's got really good tone... just the right amount of gain.

Also, not sure how you'd like this one, but I do know Budda made some good amps like this one.

I used to own a SD18, and it was one hell of a great sounding amp, but I don't think has anywhere near the kind of gain that Robert is looking for. It's definitely more of a "vintage" style drive. Plus, although only 18-watts, they are ungodly loud before they start sounding their best.

@gball - I posted a clip of my VS265 soundcheck if you want to hear the kind of gain I am using...

That sounds good. Not too over the top - that'd be something like 10-11 o'clock on a Recto.
I usually run my Mini-Rec at about noon and then goose the thing with a clean drive to get the sound I am after.

You mention Recto....what model would we be talking?

All of them really, since they all use the same preamp topology. If you can get by with 25 watts then a Mini Rec will do the job, but what I specifically had in mind for what you are doing is a Dual Rec:

Dual Rectifier | MESA/Boogie®

Gball, yeah I figured. That's why I posted the Soldanos, Jet City, dual rect n JCM Marshalls
