Wonder if I should just go ahead and Floyd this thing???? Can a Floyd be put on a Strat flush-mount without a cavity???

I think you have to drill the two big holes for the bushings but other than that it's more or less compatible, no reason not to.

I'm considering it...and going back to the 1987 Wiring/pots and 80's/90's vintage DiMarzios (DP404 / DP217/DP117) combination for more tonal versatility on hired works...

If you need it for the material you're doing I say go for it. I actually had a BC Rich ST3 in the late '80's because I needed a Floyd to pull off half the songs we were doing back then (it was when I was still gigging for money so had to play mostly covers). That was a pretty killer guitar actually: it had the Floyd and Dimarzio something or others from the factory, a total hard rock machine. Looked like this one:

good points. When I recorded 'Watchtower,' I needed a Stratocaster, so I swapped the vintage DiMarzio's back in. Then, 'Road To Hell' needed a tremolo dive...so, yeah, I might just swap it in...

Ok, so questions...

I used to see FR nuts that had screws going through the neck. Now, they do something called 'top mount' with just two little screws. Which is better???

Which Floyd is the better one??? I am thinking a used early model before the cheaper metals were used.

Thoughts???

I think as long as it's a real floyd you should be good.
Top mount lock nut should be good ....does your strat have locking tuners if so I have hard the lock jut is not needed......I would not drill through the neck to use those style

ALSO-- you might find an old use Ibanez or similar-- WITH a FLoyd -- for CHEAPER than GETTING a Floyd and installing it on your Strat-- I mena the start HAS its place and tonal function--
having a FLOYD only axe ---might also have its place and function ---

HEre is a nice Floyd loaded samick for 250

SAMICK ARTIST SERIES Super Strat. Floyd Rose. GB. HSS. Nice Guitar

if your only using it for a few songs WHY alter your Strat?????

I was thinking similar.
You can find good FR guitars for that kind of money, but usually they have the licensed floyd which may or may not be so good.

I would go that route, and upgrade to a Gotoh 1996 FR for around $125, if need be.
I have been considering this for my Jackson , and @Dave Sloven did it last year on a Schecter Stilleto.

Maybe Dave will chime in here with an updated review of the Gotoh.
