I've never had one. It's one of the few models I kind of always wanted but for some reason never pulled the trigger on. Anyway, it played like a dream and just like a Firebird the weird body is extremely comfortable. Doesn't really sound like any other guitar either but if I had to compare its like a slightly beefier-sounding SG. I was thinking I would get another Firebird but now...I have strong GAS for an Explorer.

Thoughts?

I’ve owned one. I really liked it. It was well balanced, not as heavy as I thought it would be, and had a nice neck. My only problem with it was on stage I kept hitting cymbals or other players with the rear pointy end. It sticks out farther than you think. It is one of the few that I’ve regretted moving on to a new owner. I will probably get another one some day. There is something about a big slab of mahogany that is very appealing.

I had a similar experience when I got my V together. I was stunned by how physically comfortable it was to play(standing up at least). In sound, it falls between an SG and a Les Paul...big slab of mahogany, a little thicker than an SG.
If you already have a Firebird that you’re happy with.....
.....you could do worse than an Explorer....

Yeah, you guys are enablers. I'm going to wait a week and see if the GAS subsides, then maybe go back and play one again.

Want to also say that Gibson is absolutely crushing it with the build quality right now - every new Gibby I picked up today is built as well as any guitar I have ever played.

To answer the title question ---well ugh YES! -- we ALL ARE! or we wouldnt be here--- :)

get one dude -- they are awesome they are very comfortable to play seated even ----enjoy!
Yes we are.

And you answered my question on playing it seated. Don’t stand a lot when I play. Habit I picked up playing acoustic only for so many years.

Mine is VERY comfy seated-- more so than most guitars because the "waist" of an explorer is SOO thin it feels like a much smaller guitar AND the "top tail or whatever ya call it makes a GREAT arm rest for LAZY players :)

HAHA Gball, that is what happened to me when Robert was building that Ibanez Phil Collen Clone guitar he had. Seeing Bastard's V every day doesn't help me on V jonesin either. I was freaking stupid when my mom and pop shop had Epi Korina Explorers and V's for sale around 2012 and I didn't pick either one up.

You are asking the wrong question to the wrong person. I love Explorers. Comfortable to play seated, six-in-a-row ergonomics, common sense control layout, tune-o-magic/stop bar, what's not to like????

Yes. I would buy it, along with a good 'A' frame stand.... these Aussies' plug Explorers right into Marshalls.

Dig this:

I've been in that very place on stage years ago with my Destroyer. It was lightweight, fun to play, cool looking too, but also a proven platform....with 24.75" scale an twin humbuckers.

The Explorer is basically a very close relative of a Les Paul, so again you get a proven platform.

I feel like an evil cartoon character - "The Enabler."
