Your guitar looks great! I assume the fret board is ebony? Nice touch and what exactly is the vibrato unit?

KAHLER Vibrato?

I love these tuners. I wish that Gibson stuck with these. It is such a useful addition having a built in winder that flips out like a pen knife.

No kidding. Those were such a great idea, but killed off by the insistence that everything be just like it was in the 1950's.
Here's a shot of the inside of my '79 V2's control cavity. There's a "black box" stuck to the side of the cavity, and a bunch of extra capacitors, a bias or trim pot, and a 9 volt battery that did not originally come with the guitar. I tried researching it once, and really didn't come up with anything. Maybe Steve or Voxy, or some of the other guys that knew of sorcery going on in the early '80s might know what this is.

This is the first time I have seen these tuners as my 79 LP had that same Tulip style but without the winder parts. What a cool idea for string change times.
That would add cost, of course, especially if made durable enough. Good that they still would work even if broken, though. They are cool indeed, but in reality don't really save a lot of time and effort over a cheap string winder to me.I had them on a LP Custom a while back, and they were fantastic for string changes. Definitely something Gibson should consider bringing back.

Makes sense. Not too good idea to wear a tool belt....No not for normal string changes but where they really shine is if you break a string during a gig or while jamming.
