I was just being curious on ebay guitars and ran across this. Does anyone know of them or had one etc?

1981 Gibson FLYING V2 extremely rare GOLDBURST!!! | eBay

Not sure I'd call it funk, but it IS somethin. If I hadn't seen it with a 1981 date, I'd have sworn it was a 2010's Henry J gimmicky creation. Just looked again and found 6 of em in various colors.

Oooooh, I wanted one of these SO BAD when they first came out.

Wanna see something equally basa$$, Google “Explorer E2”

Sorry guys, but I have to say that IMHO that V2 is just plain fugly!

Notice my mention of thinking it might have been a "Henry J special"

It is not exactly as ninja says, fugly, but it is one that I'd say either grabs ya, or makes you want to say woah WTF?

I kinda liked it, but not for high money. I also tend to opt for simple like with tools, more gizmos = more struggles/failures. I particularly hate trigger lockout buttons on drills or sawzalls.
I would not turn one of these V2's down at the $600 range.

First time i have seen that.
The burst pattern is messing with my eyes like it is the actual body shape.
First impression I dont care for it.
Dig the Explorer though.

I didnt like the Moderne or Corvus either at first but kinda dig them now.

it is the actual body shape - they have deep bevels cut in the edges (for comfort I guess) and what you are seeing is the burst following the contours.

That goldburst is sick looking too. My 81 SG Deluxe is a goldburst and its freaking awesome in person.
