Well previously when we were looking for a name for the amp room, we left it up to y'all to come up with ideas and vote on it. That worked pretty good for Room Eleven. How about we do the same for this new all other instruments room? If someone wants to start a thread with suggestions and start a vote, I'll honor whatever choice that you come up with.

In the quote above, @WavMixer suggested one of us start a thread soliciting names for a room that deals with other instruments. Because I'm the kind who grew up jumping into puddles, I figured, "Sure, I'll do it!"

The specific instruments of consideration are wind instruments and bowed instruments. However, I would assume this would be a good room for just about anything.

I think it's a great idea to have a room for them, but I'm not sure it would make sense to make two rooms - one for wind and one for bowed instruments - as I suspect the traffic to those areas would be very slight. I'm thinking one room would do. But, it's not my decision.

Personally, I do not have much in the way of suggestions to create a poll. Maybe after a bunch of suggestions come through, a poll could be started by the Admins or Mods.

Any ideas for names for such a room?

I fully with You regarding that we need only one room. Let's start with Your suggestion

The Study

and maybe

Orchestral Lobby
And yes, the nameing should of course also allow for theremins (who is going to cover Whole Lotta Love?) or the computers and all the other nice things in the

Chamber of Fancy Stuff

In order not to tune too fine but just reserve adequate space for everything else

we have a bassment, a terrace, some rooms, but our musical house is somewhere in

The Gardens of Sound

or

The Valley of Voices
or

The Jungle of Tones
which might be cool generic places for every musical topic we might come across outside ord little house. Actually even for more houses if we think we should need some.

Well I am seeing lots of creativity here, I expecting to see as much coming from such a creative group. I would like to stay focused on the whole room concept we have going here. So far these three seem to fit withing the "room" theme:

The Study
Orchestral Lobby
Chamber of Fancy Stuff

I'll keep this open for a while longer before we put it to a vote. BTW, theremins kick a$$. I've always loved them in Sci fi movies way before Page used one.

Perhaps as we grow we may need rooms for more individual instruments, but for now I believe that one room for all of the rest will do.

What about "Orchestra Chamber?" It's a play on "chamber orchestra" and maintains the room theme.

I like it, however does it limit this to orchestra? What about banjo or hamonica? I think that if we are going to have a room for everything else, it should include everything else.

What about The Band Room?

I am kind of old fashioned. I vote for "All Instruments Free For ALL Discussions"

Of course since it seems we have set a precedent where sections have titles we have to guess WTF the topics included within are, I vote for

"Name your Poison."

First I thought of "No Strings Attached" but thought it imperfect because of violins, pianos etc etc that do have strings attached. Yet, it still aint bad with a definition behind it like we see on our Forum page. Then I say, 'wait a tic,.. we don't have breif definitions of our Forum Rooms after the room names!'

That raises the question of ''should there be a brief outline or definition of what each Room Name covers that basically defines what material would be appropriate for that room and what to expect there in each one?"

I also liked 'The Orchestra Pit' but again, we can find guitars, basses & drums in orchestras so it really gets hard to find a defining name that nails the topic & doesn't leave questions without a small definition after the Room name.

There should and there is.

I would still vote for my "outdoor" idea: it is just the complementary extension of the room concept and logically a necessary part of it. And, btw, always there - logically. It will not break the room concept at all. So why not just give it a name and use it for everything we would not classify?
