O.K. -- this place looks all right-- decent room-- comfy couch --good to set-- have a beer and tell a LONG ARSE story----

Ive decided-- SINCE RAY was man enough to try a DOGEAR -- and even more MAN ENOUGH to admit he was WRONG and they are AWESOME and amazing----I

As you all KNOW-- have wrestled with the VOLUME KNOB and STRATS for many many years--I was resigned for a time to think---"Im just NOT a strat guy"
Ive owned and flipped at LEAST 18-20 of them -- Squires--MIMs--Knock Offs-- fakes--
they just NEVER stick-- and ONLY a handful of strats I have played (and I try many out and about) seemed to feel good-- and to date only 2 have felt VERY GOOD-- like perfect-- just right---

1. is UNOBTANIUM-- and is owned by one Master of Hack... Hackmaster himself-- the famed Rhino Rheinhardt guitar of story and legend-- to be exact -- THIS ONE:

info on Larry if you are not :in the know"-- R.I.P. RHINO--

THat Purple beast has a soul and it dances in your hands and heart when played -- truly an amazing piece!

ANYWAY-- the other one ---- well:

Ive been "undercover hunting" for a Strat-- but not another el cheapo squire-- and NOT a 2300.00 American whats everish---custom shopified or PRS copy---

A true Fender by FEEL quest---

I Was going about my usual sales schlepping door to door and visiting some
clients-- some potential clients and harassing people I had sunbmitted bids to who hadnt bought and hadnt returned my calls or emails---(you dont want to make a Ferengi Salesman wait--trust me)
so after the last "sneak attack" and watching the Store owner SQUIRM wiht excuses -- uhm the truck broke down-- uhm we had a roof leak-- I uhm just hadnt got around to emailing you.........(I like making them Squirm-- I know its B.S.- -they know I know---but-- I enjoy it---) I left that store and realized -- HEY-- its LUNCH TIME-- and I am 2 blocks from the INFAMOUS JIMMYS VINTAGE MUSIC of fame and lore (and where I made the deal with the Devil for 14 guitars in trade for 1, pristine--all original 1970 Les Paul Recording Guitar) -- I had avoided Jimmys for several months now for fear he still had all 14 guitars and was PISSED at me for the deal-----but -- being ME-- I went by to say "Hi" and to try some OLD vintage 7.25 radius neck fenders ----(I blame you for ALL OF THIS CHRIS!)

After fondling and rubbing my junk on VERY nice vitnage HIGH DOLLAR strats-- (SRV reissues-- Hendrix Reissues) some low dollar Squires-- a COOL Squire BULLET with the SIlver STAR headstock logo from the 80's -- and a BUNCH of Strat clones--- I was under whelmed--
I played some Musicmasters and DuoSonics form the 60's -- and frankly neck radius schmeck radius -- its good or its not -- play the thing

ANYWAY -- I was about to leave --but Jimmys Brother was telling me a story of a Gibson SG neck break ---- and while listening I saw a WHITE -- used-- MIM Strat--- nothing fancy -- - a little dinged up -- no trem bar----scratched pick guard-----I ignored it for a bit -- but the STORY DRUG ON-- like this one-- and finally I picked it up...........and strumed it---- and felt a very nice vibration through the wood------Bob ( I Think thats Jimmys Brothers name....or is it Dave??? not sure) kept rambling -- so I kept strumming -=- and sat down -=- and tuned her-- and strummed more---

and well -- a price tag was looked at -- a conversation was had and a deal was struck -- and I got her for LESS than most New Squires and even less than some USED Squires!

Dang it -- hold on I need to grab another beer................................................................................................................................

O.k. back to the story---the damn guitar felt ALMOST as good as Rhinos--- and well....

Like Ray -and the DOG EAR- I am going to make an effort to open my mind to the STRAT-- and learn to play the STRAT -- as it is-- 3 single coils and a "F"ed up Volume knob --et all-- pluses minuses-- it all goes in the pot --
and TBTH -- I am REALLY REALLY enjoying the CRAP out of this thing!

I like (own a "P" and a "J") Squire/ Fender Basses--- I always "fought" Strats----

to YOU STRAT GUYS -- I raise the WHITE FLAG --er well a WHITE 2008 standard MIM STRAT! and admit -- they DONT SUCK!

Congrats and welcome to the fold! Looks and sounds like you got a good one...nice thing is if you discover little things that need tweaked it's easy to do with a Strat!

I knew if I posted enough porn someone would jump on board...I'm down to 9 guitars from around 20 and 6 are Strats. I'm still trying to move two of the ones that aren't
and the only LP type I'm keeping is the Custom Made Spectre Black Beauty...because who in their right mind would buy a guitar Made in Uranus???

And, DON’T get discouraged.

Strats ain’t like Gibsons.

Gibsons flutter their eyelashes at you and tell you how great you are.

Stratocasters slap you and call you, “Boy.”

Just learn to do things her way!

After narrowly catching my SG recently, after another band member bumped into the stand, I am probably going to join your ranks...although I've had my 1987 Squirecaseter since 1988...I may be your Grandfather...:-)

Interesting-- I find the Les Paul Recording is (thought easy to play ) with amazing action and a FEEL that is familiar-- it is FAR LESS forgiving than the strat-- the strat seems to allow/absorb and ROLL with my fumble flaws--- the Les Paul amplifies and POINTS them out -- like Les himself is standing over me with riding crap SLAPPING me in the left ear when I "F" up-----

the start seems more -- mello man-- awh ya dropped that note --eh "F" it go to the next with a slide and just groove dude-----(same way Fender Basses seem to me)

only "adjustment" is the knob (i usually --lazy habit--) rest my palm on the bridge-- however STRUMMING and doing so means the pinky jams the knob-- I am LEARNING and EMBRACING moving my hand closer to the neck --

so far-- so good

Yeah, but you’re gonna put two humbuckers in it, so...well...!:p

Oh, Man..I did my first humbucker swap in that guitar in 1995 with a Carvin M22SD...This time it will be a pair of Gibson humbuckers. The bridge is a 500T with two magnets removed 14.6kΩ (finally got the skinny from the previous owner) and a 496R coming in at 8.6kΩ... :-)

Ok..the Les Paul Recording is an ENTIRELY different sort of matter.

Can’t really make a comparison there.

But, if you already feel more comfortable with the Stratocaster, then that’s a good sign.

Stratocasters will reject you straight-away if they don’t like you.

But, you can win them over by continual love and attention.

You know that volume knob thing has never been a problem for me because I've always strummed further up the neck.

I plant my pinky finger and use it as a brace. I'm also trying to learn to use the whammy bar to rest on since I have a Black
Gilmour clone with the short bar...

If you beat them long enough, they will submit...I've had 4 fret levels in 28 years of ownership...

Fret levels perpetuate the love. They give you more lifetime to embrace her.

A humbucker is a different matter.

“Strats” may have two humbuckers.

“Stratocasters” do not!

The Stratocaster cork-sniffing is strong with the Schmittlap!

Yngwie has a very unique tone, but I don't like it. Humbuckers are a must-have in my genre, regardless of the packaging...
