a messy mesa up

Well--- its IMPRESSED THE DOG SH*T outta ME Smitty-- and I have owned an amp or 12---or 20--- or....uhm crap A BUNCH .......it replaced the Marshall DSL -- the TUBE Marshall I waited YEARS to acquire a TUBE Marshall --- I told Hack-- NO -- I lOVE my Marshall-- but like a good crack dealer-- he persisted--- here kid -- try it-- just TRY it----all the COOL kids are doing it he says--- and Chas --- oh the "beer" pressure was unrelenting-----and (once the V2 tube was replaced) the Mesa has removed ANY desire I had to keep the Marshall........DSL--- you will pry my British Marshall Valvestate from my cold dead hand!!!!!!

The tube Marshall's - new and old - are failing to impress me. My old JMP and JTM's had no reverb, no effects loop and were constantly overheating. the DSL40C is good for classic rock, but IMHO, that's about it. However, to really and truly evaluate the DSL40C, you MUST play it through a 4 or 8 X 12" cabinet.

A 1 X 12 anything just sounds like an old car's AM radio.

No matter what I play, i will no longer run through less than a 4 X 12 cabinet...Period...even my Blackstar

So, @gball, what speaker do you think is a good match?

My preference would be to get an F-30 head. My immediate thought would be to pair it with a Vintage 30 or a Greenback. What do you think?

Also, does your Mark V have the parallel FX loop like the F-30? What do you think of that? I use a series loop now, so my thought would be to have the mix control maxed and just turn my effects on and off as necessary, like I do now.

I’m open to comments from other Mesa owners, too.

A head WOULD BE LIGHTER -- this thing weights like 48 lbs......

For me, I would go with the V30. I don't like the sound of Mesa amps with Greenbacks - the low end is too flubby/loose IMO.

The loop on the 5:25 is a buffered series loop. The amp actually sounds better when the loop is engaged, even if you just put a jumper from send to return! Level on that one is controlled by the master, so depending on how loud the amp is you may have to change the effects settings but once dialed in its fine.

I got away from cabinets because of the weight and space they take up, but now I recall why I liked them...so I am basically back to where I was 30 years ago.
 
NOW I HAVE A PROBLEM -- see I have a pickup I need to install in a guitar-- I have a bass (well 2) that need neck adjustments and or new strings-- I have a guitar needing a new 3 way switch -- but instead of WORKING on guitars -- I want to pLAY THE MESA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
I'm just going to add that Mesas are an incredible deal...while not cheap, what you get for the money is pretty amazing vis-a-vis other amps. The versatility, tones and build quality place them among the very best amps available anywhere at what is really a remarkably low cost all things considered. Maintenance is low as well.
 
I loved that F30 for many years. Glad it went to an appreciative home.
It's a fantastic amp, and not very common on the used market.
But once I got the Rectoverb 25, I didn't really need the F30 anymore.
The Rectoverb could do everything the F30 could do plus has way more gain on tap.
It's the amp that I've dreamed about. A tone monster, yet civilized and refined.

Ol' Adrian has a keeper amp now for sure. I've corrupted him.

I dig out a 15.88kΩ humbuclker with 2 conductor wiring, flip the magnet, ship it to Adrian and even offer to send him beer money to install it....
 
Was playing the Mesa-----(Daves fault 110%) ------
will get Pup in by the weeks end--- I have to mentally "work up" to Soldering-----also have to be in the right frame of mind and mood---or the entire project---the guitar--- the 4 chickens I kill when I throw said guitar---- and the window I have to replace after I launch said guitar (in a HAIL OF EXPLETIVES not before seen on planet earth or the 3rd plane of Hell) while dogs scatter an cower----- are truly not worth the effort-----
