Looky what I gots on da way...

I just put it on my purchase list for the morning. I have to do work in my shop to night, I will see what else I need and get the tube here. I am glad I ran into you guys today. Tia just said she needs stuff to. I order the start of the week and the end.

The volume is uncontrollable with a 12AX7 in V1 and goes from not much to a stadium volume level.
A very popular and good mod for the HRD's silly volume control function is to remove the HRD's clean channel volume pot, which is a 250K Audio pot, and use it to replace the MASTER volume pot, which is a 100K Linear. The empty clean VOLUME control will now be replaced by a new 100K Audio pot. Big difference for the better!

If you have a Hot Rod Deluxe III: All you do, is replace the stock Linear pot with a new 100K Audio pot at the VOLUME control.

I know your HRD III is about the same as my American built HRD. You do have an excellent idea and I will look into it. I just cleaned the pots and never looked at the values. A couple looked new and I am not sure what ones. I am behind on my projects but as soon as I see a light at the end of the tunnel I will follow the tip you gave me. I am never this busy in the summer, I have these stupid speaking engagements that take the better part of an evening. Thank you!

Retubing the power amp would take some searching, the GEC KT-77's are getting scarce. I can imagine it sounds phenomenal though, tight & powerful.
The RCA turned up yesterday, in a post package that would fit 2 stompboxes in it

Ivan, I use the RCA 12ax7 gray plate on my Dumble clone builds in V-1 and V-2
I have a back up quad of the KT-77 I like the pre war Tesla EL-34's Telefunken tooling.

I have a friend in Columbus Ohio that started collecting tubes in the 1950's and will to a very few people. Old work friends and school friends.
He has too many of the common preamp tubes and power tubes. I ordered a couple of tubes for my Fender amp. No deals, he over charges me and every one else. I will have the 5751 tubes Monday and some tubes for my friends amps.

Not seeing a link to a kit...just tubes?

I have a friend in Germany I have got the ultra rare NOS tubes same thing no deals but they have all tested off the charts.
I got a great deal out of Russia a box of 50 12AX7 Telefunken smooth plate at $45.00 each but it took five months. I still order from him
12AX7 I like the Siemens 1957-1962 for the phase inverter but $300.00 each.

Germany was my hunting ground for tubes. My pal in Ohio can be a flake some times. My Dutch girl worked for a defence contractor and very big corporation. Seimen Medical and every thing else you can think of. She remembered parts of the tube numbers I wanted and she asked me do I want a particular tube on that list, a 12AX7 because they will be selling their over stock generator tubes.
I did get the maximum I could and that was 4. These are matched, I never knew that was important until I put three matched 12AX7's in my Monoprice amp. That day I returned the Vox AC15 because it suck compared to the all new re made Monoprice 15 watt power house for under $200 bucks.
I did put a used Green Back in it and other parts. I am still thrilled with it mostly because I can pick it up.

$200.00 I looked it up that explains why my amp repair has flat-lined. I have not been impressed with the China made VOX. I had a Crate vintage 30 in last week blown power transformer
obsolete now. 2016 my wife and I serviced 26 VOX AC-15 type amps some vintage some custom built they all had a EF86 V-1 preamp After that I built one I play it every day
same thing 20 pounds I play a 06/1998 Parker Fly Deluxe most of the time it's under 4 pounds serial number 2002 but it's dated inside the guitar 1998

The Chinese Vox stuff is not great. I had a Vox AC 30 made in England. It was a work horse and it had few problems. I did not know about matched tubes or biase. Now they continue to do very stupid things. The AC 10 has a ten inch speaker and the AC 4 has a twelve inch speaker.

Hey 67plexi - If I were to build an around the EF86 is there a specific amp/schematic you'd recommend?
Cool deal on the servicing amps with the wife. I'd love to be able to get a business going were something like could happen.

I've got a chassis on the way to mess around with that has a 5879 and 12ax7 in the preamp section. Should be here Monday or Tuesday.

Hopefully some time in the not too distant future I'll be living somewhere I can set up my table saw, etc and make some cabs...
