Evel Knievel's Record Is Broken...

I had the pleasure of watching this last night on my roommate's TV which was a historic moment. Travis Pastrana, a 34 year-old rider replicates three of Evel Knievel's most famous jumps in one night in Las Vegas, Nevada. He completed all three and broke Evel's records. He made it look so easy. He drove a modified Indian motorcycle which weighs almost twice as much as his motor-cross dirt bike. They even showed some old footage of Evel's jump in Las Vegas back I think in 1967. It's amazing how many bones he has broke in his career and spent about 3 years of his life in the hospital. Here's a news link below on the event.

Did he ever successfully complete a single jump? In my book just launching yourself randomly at the distant landscape really doesn't count.

He landed a lot of them, seems he crashed on a lot the most hyped ones though.
Wish I still had my Evel Knievel motorcycle toy.

I think mine did not survive being doused with barbq fluid and run through a burning puddle of same.
Me and at least 3 other buddies had them in the 5th grade, could have been one of theirs.
Dog ran off with and chewed one up too.
I know we had them for a good amount of time and many successful adventures before the eventual tragic end.

I still have my Pinewood derby car from 1974...

Wish I had mine!
Probably went to some James Dean re-enactment.

The original Bakelite wheels fell off and got lost, so I bought a vintage 1970's kit just to replace the wheels on mine. My son decided he wanted to build one from the kit, so we picked up some more modern tires/wheels and I helped him build it...

Thats exactly what happened on some of his crashes: he overshot the upper area of the landing ramp.
The harsher impact of landing on a flatter surface rather than a smoother transition on a steeper incline.
You know what if feels like when you smash your nuts on the gas tank and feel all your internal organs get slammed down into your intestines.
You get soreness in your lower back mainly in the kidneys from it.

I did a lot of motorcycle jumps as a kid....plenty of ramp to ramp using flatbed trailers, pallets and dirt. Never crashed thankfully...

you where lucky -- I crashed a LOT!

now paying the debt of an active and often violent youth----arthritis in wrists fingers arms ankles and all the places I broke ......was a fun ride but man it sure went by fast.....
