ok I will ante up my unpopular opinion, never was a fan of EVH , I admit his virtuosity by was never really into his playing.

Yeah , I get that. I have said it many times. I was one and done. After the first recording even though he was a great player the radio friendly music back in those days shut the door for me. I always despised radio rock.

I am rehabilitated now some what.
Slam me all day, I don,t care.
I would rather listen to Uli Roth.
I know it sounds odd to say this but in the 70's once the British wave hit anything American was subpar.
I am less biased now but as teenager you could never have changed my mind.

See, here's another one that I always felt an oddball on. Never really liked VH's music (and couldn't agree more about radio/chick rock) and Dave Roth was uniquely annoying. Sure, EVH could play, but all that tapping stuff never did a thing for me and I never really understood the hype.
